Kwara commissioner urges students to adopt physiotherapy as career

The Commissioner for Health, Kwara, Dr Raji Razaq, has urged students to adopt Physiotherapy as a career choice. Newsmen reports that Physiotherapy is a science-based profession that deals with helping to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. The Commissioner made the call on Saturday, while receiving members of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy, Kwara State Chapter, in his office on a courtesy visit. He urged members of the society to review their routine programme in order to include career guidance and counselling. CUPP condemns call for arrest of its spokesman

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has strongly condemned the call made by a group called the Emerging Leaders Forum (ELF) for the arrest and prosecution of its spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, for allegedly making inciting statements with plans to topple the Mohammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government. Labour ministry debunks human trafficking allegations

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has finally come out to debunk the allegations claiming that it was complicit to human trafficking of Nigerian girls by issuance of illegal Recruiter’s License to Private Employment Agencies (PEAs). The spokesperson of the Ministry, Mr Charles Akpan, stating through statement said that the Ministry has not issued any Recruiters Licence with respect to the placement of Nigerian citizens abroad in breach of the relevant provisions of the Labour Act. The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, had reportedly accused the Ministry of illegally issuing of licences to PEAs, which she said paved way for the trafficking of Nigerians. WASSCE: Bauchi government uncovers irregularities in candidates’ list

There are strong indications that some students in Bauchi State may not write the 2020 WASSCE following the discovery of massive irregularities in the list of the candidates preparing for the exams by the Ministry of Education. The disclosure was made by the Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde as contained in a statement he issued on Friday declaring that, a whistleblower has called the attention of the ministry to the irregularities. Cross River Basin Authority managing director suspended

The Managing Director of Cross River Basin Development Authority has been suspended from office by the board of the agency. Bassey Nkposong was suspended on Thursday after an ad-hoc committee which looked into how the agency was being run accused him of irregularities in the award of N250 million worth of contracts and other “breaches.” The committee was set up by the board in September 2019. “The committee observed from the various breaches that the Managing Director has advertently arrogated to himself the status of a sole administrator regardless of the extant provisions of the Establishment Act of the Authority,” the committee noted in its report which was submitted in February 2020, five months after it was set up. “The above scenario has led to many breaches where contracts which cle...

The Speaker of the House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, made this known at a public hearing on the bill in Lagos on Friday. Kidnap kingpin Evans’ co-defendants lose bid to quash charges

The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Friday dismissed the no-case submissions filed by co-defendants to alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans. The court, in a ruling by Justice Hakeem Oshodi, held that the prosecution had made out a prima facie case against the defendants which required that they put in a defence. The defendants are facing trial over the kidnap of the Chief Executive Officer of Maydon Pharmaceutical Limited, Donatus Dunu, in 2017. The prosecution said they collected €223,000 in ransom before freeing the businessman after 88 days in captivity. The six defendants are Evans, Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba. Kano distributes 500 gas cylinders, improved stoves

Kano State Government says it has distributed 500 improved stoves and Liquefied Natural Gas (LPG) cylinders to encourage development of alternative sources of energy. Abdulhamid Bala, Director, Ecology and Forestry in the state’s Ministry of Environment, disclosed this in an interview to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Kano. Bala disclosed that the items were distributed to deserving households to discourage use of fuel wood and control desert encroachment. He said that the items were distributed as part of activities to mark the 2020 World Desertification Day, adding that the state government would establish a five hectre woodlots in selected areas in the state.
