But just before 2016 ended, Yebba agreed to perform alongside Chance the Rapper for his Saturday Night Live appearance — and ended up stealing the show. She and her team, then a bare-bones operation led by co-manager Ross Michaels and his Park Avenue Artists team, decided to capitalize on the moment and uploaded a clip from the Sofar set of Yebba singing her first original song, “My Mind.” It went viral, raking in over 18 million YouTube views. “It was like a one-two punch,” says Michaels. That kind of start-stop trajectory has hampered Yebba’s promising launch for nearly five years, with her fans begging for her debut album online. “There has never been a moment where I was like, ‘Man, we really lost out,’ because when she puts out a song, it’s amazing,” says Michaels. “It has this e...
In the clip for the two-night, four-hour documentary that’s set to air on A&E and Lifetime in January 2022, Jackson says: “This is my story, told by me, not through someone else’s eyes.” “This is the truth — take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me,” she adds. It was previously announced that JANET would include exclusive archival footage, home videos and celebrity interviews. Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul and more make brief appearances in the trailer, which promises that the doc will feature unseen personal footage. Ben Hirsh directed JANET, with Workerbee producing for Lifetime and A&E and Associated Entertainment Corporation co-producing. Janet Jackson and Randy Jackson are executive producers on the project, while...
BTS looked prep-school cool for their smooth, just-released performance of “Butter” at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. The never-before-seen clip, which BBC Radio 1 saved for September’s Live Lounge Month, made its debut on Monday (Sept. 6). The BTS ARMY enjoyed the musical treat to start the week. The top comment on YouTube summed up their reaction: “BTS vibing to their own songs is everything. Sarah Harding, who died on Sunday (Sept. 5) after a battle with breast cancer, aged just 39, left behind a massive impression on the U.K. charts as part of the pop outfit Girls Aloud. The five-piece, consisting of Harding, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Cheryl Cole, was a pop juggernaut through the noughts, collecting four Official Chart U.K. No. 1s singles and 21 Top 10s. Twenty of those Top 10s were consecutive — a feat no female group has come close to matching, and the singers’ roaring success was confirmed by Guinness World Records, which in 2011 declared Girls Aloud as the “Most Successful Reality TV Group”. “I can’t believe it,” she says following the cast’s first live number. “That was such a rush. And not dangerous at all. I wasn’t scared. Oh my god, there’s gonna be three more songs.” In the film itself, an updated version of the classic fairy tale filled with modern pop music, Cabello portrays Ella, an ambitious young lady who hopes to one day become a successful businesswoman. “It feels amazing,” the singer (and now actress) told Billboard at the Miami premiere earlier this week. “I’m so proud to be Latina and I’m so proud of my culture. I would’ve been so excited to see a Latina princess when I was growing up, and the fact that I can be that right now and that representation is possible right now, is amazing.” Watch Corden’s “C...

Sarah Harding, co-founding member of the UK pop group Girls Aloud, has died at the age of 39 from breast cancer. Harding’s mother, Marie, announced her daughter’s passing in a statement shared to Instagram on Sunday (Sept. 5th): “Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. Harding said earlier this year that she was told by a doctor that she will likely not be alive next Christmas. In her autobiography, released in March, she said she decided to announce her illness in the hope that others who have concerns would seek medical help and not leave a cancer diagnosis until it’s too late. Harding found fame in 2002 as a contestant on the ITV talent show “Popstars: The Rivals,” which paved the way for her joining Girls Aloud alongside Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy and Nadine Coyle. The group had several hits including “Sound of the Underground,” “Love Machine” and “The Promise” before it split up in 2013. After Girls Aloud, Harding appeared in several movies and television shows as well as a stage adaptation of “Ghost” the movie. She won the reali...
A day earlier, the R&B singer had shared with fans that the battle over her catalog was over. “All My Children Are Coming Home,” she tweeted with a photo of her first five albums: The Songstress (1983), The Rapture (1986), Giving You the Best That I Got (1988), Compositions (1990) and Rhythm of Love (1994). “Impossible Things Happen … Every. Single. Day. Gratefully.” Shortly after the announcement, she encouraged fans to “STREAM.ON.” This isn’t the first time Swift has shown support for Baker’s fight to regain control of her own masters. In March, the soul singer tweeted that “miraculously,” she had “out-lived *ALL, of my Artist Contracts.” However, she explained, “By Law… 30yr old, Mstrs are 2B R...
In addition to a slew of standard happy birthday messages, some shared their favorite Beyoncé song while others emphasized the impact — both personal and cultural — she’s had over the years. Former Saturday Night Live cast member and actress Maya Rudolph thanked the singer for sharing her grace, humanity and bravery. “The world is a better place with you in it,” Rudolph said. Taylor Swift acknowledged Beyoncé for paving “the road that every female artist is walking down now.” “Then the fact that you’ve done so with such kindness and such grace, I just to say I admire you as like there’s just not a word for it,” Swift continued. “You’ve given me and so many others permission to be free to embrace all that we are,” said Promising Young Woman and Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox. “You...
