HHW Gaming: The PS5 Jig Continues, Sony Reportedly Cutting Production Plans Due To Chip Shortage

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Future Publishing / Getty If you managed to get a PS5 since its launch last year, consider yourself very fortunate. According to a report from Bloomberg citing sources familiar with Sony’s operations, the company has reportedly cut production plans for the PlayStation 5 console by around 1 million consoles. The culprit? The same chip shortages and logistics constraints. Basically, it’s going to be even harder to find a PS5 console. According to the report, Sony initially looked to produce 16 million PS5 consoles in the year ending March 2022 but cut the figure down to 15 million. Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Hiroki Totoki, recently revealed to investors that part shortages and logistical shortages have become more “severe,” the report further detailed....

Tuesday (Nov.9), PC Mag reported that Verizon would be selling PS5 consoles, a strange step for the mobile phone service provider.  Speaking with the website, a spokesperson for the company confirmed the news saying, “In the near future, Verizon will be selling a very limited quantity of Sony PlayStation 5 consoles in a handful of pilot stores and online. Inventory will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.” The spokesperson also revealed that consoles will not be available for everyone telling PC Mag, “Online customers must have an existing, post-paid Veri...

HHW Gaming: Sony Launches New Registration Website To Help You Get A PS5 Before Christmas

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty Could Sony’s latest move help you get that highly elusive PS5? It’s no secret. It’s STILL incredibly challenging trying to purchase a PS5 and other consoles and graphic cards due to strains on the supply chain and chip shortages. Ahead of the upcoming holiday season, Sony hopes it can be more like Santa instead of Scrooge and get its next-gen console in the homes of gamers in the United States with the launch of a new registration website.  It’s still no guarantee you will get a PS5. Still, Sony is increasing your chances a bit by allowing customers to register in hopes of being selected to get an invitation to cop its next-gen console, which the company admits only having a “limited amount.” To signup, you must have a PlayStation...

HHW Gaming Review: ‘NBA 2K22’ Is A Solid Entry In The Annual Franchise, Still Far From Championship Form

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Visual Concepts / NBA 2K22 (PS5) Last year Visual Concepts and 2K took a euro-step in the right direction with NBA 2K’s first entry in the world of next-gen gaming. Can they keep the momentum going with NBA 2K22? The answer to that question is yes and no. Allow us to explain. It’s a new year, and before the real NBA returns, we get to hoop virtually via NBA 2K22. Our review of NBA 2K21 said the game LOOKED and FELT terrific to play, but it still wasn’t a slam dunk, yet still an enjoyable experience despite its flaws. NBA 2K22 takes what was good with the previous iteration of the annual sports video game franchise and improves on that slightly. Quickly, players will notice that the presentation (always on point) is still second to none, and the gameplay h...

HHW Gaming: Sony Announces September 9 PlayStation Showcase, Let The Speculation Begin

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / Getty Is Sony about to blow our minds next week? Outside of the announcement of Horizon: Forbidden West’s new release date, Sony has been relatively quiet. At the same time, Xbox and other gaming studios showed gamers what’s in the pipeline during last week’s virtual Gamescom event. That’s all going to change with Sony announcing it will be holding a virtual event on September 9. Ever since the company decided to pull itself out of E3, it has worked on its own schedule, relishing that any news regarding PlayStation 5 and its first-party games from PlayStation Studios are events in itself, and we won’t argue that based on the reception this announcement is getting. While not giving anything away, PlayStation announced on its official Tw...

The latest update to Sony’s PlayStation 5 console is now available for download and brings the system’s firmware to version 21.01-03.21.00. As far as any significant changes to your console’s software, we hope you were not expecting those because all it does is “improves system performance,” which still could be a big deal, depending on what exactly is being improved. As to exactly what kind of improvements to system performance? Your guess is as good as ours. But, we hope that it corrects many of the issues PS5 owners, such as our resident tech and video game writer Beanz, experience now and then when logging substantial hours on the console.
