The Doors’ final studio album, L.A. Woman, turned 50 earlier this year, and that golden anniversary is now being celebrated with a new deluxe edition. Arriving December 3rd from Rhino, the L.A. Woman (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) will include three CDs and one LP. The vinyl will include the original stereo mix remaster of the classic record, while the first CD will include that same mix plus two bonus tracks: a 1969 demo of “Hyacinth House” captured in Robby Krieger’s home studio, and an early demo of “Riders on the Storm” recorded at Sunset Sound studios. That latter track was only recently uncovered, recently found on an unmarked tape reel in The Doors’ vault long after it was considered a lost relic. This version of “Riders on the Storm” was recorded with producer Paul A. Rothc...
On Monday night, Dead & Company played a concert at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts — AKA the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival. To celebrate the occasion, the group played the entirety of the Grateful Dead’s setlist from that iconic moment in history. Check out some footage from their performance below. As usual, the surviving members of the band were joined by John Mayer for last night’s gig, which is part of their ongoing 2021 tour. After opening with a few Grateful Dead covers like “Hell in a Bucket” and “Easy Wind,” they broke out six other songs before Bob Weir grabbed the microphone to update audience members about the band’s plan for the evening. “Fifty years ago, right here, we tried this little sequence,” he said. “And it didn’t work so well for us, so we’re going to t...
Dead & Company want to make sure the only dead people on their 2021 tour are on stage. John Mayer and the surviving members of the Grateful Dead have announced strict new COVID-19 guidelines, requiring ticket holders to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 48 hours of entry. That 48-hour window is tighter than the 72 hours allowed by other live events such as Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo. And the rules get even more restrictive for the General Admission Pit. Only vaccinated fans can partake in this part of the show, and those with just a negative test will be relocated to a non-Pit area. Since children under the age of 12 aren’t cleared for vaccination, that means that those younger kids will also not be allowed in the Pit. “Requiring vaccinations&nb...
Let’s toast! POND have released their latest single “Toast” via Spinning Top Records, along with its accompanying lyric video. Stream the song below. The track finds the Australian psych rock quintet looking back on last year’s devastating in their home country as well as the extreme class divide found in frontman Nick Allbrook’s hometown of Perth. “Glasses chink, we applaud the setting sun/ Bloated with champagne, we assumed we’d see another one/ If the water dries like the morning dew/ Life’s too short to be away from you/ Toast,” Allbrook intones in the visual as he serves his bandmates a festive meal against a bright teal backdrop. Related Video “The intro chords came from a Joe Ryan demo mysteriously titled Toast,” the singer explained in a statement about how the song came together. ...
Our new music feature Origins provides artists the outlet to share unique insights into their latest track. Today, Shannon and the Clams read the signs of “Year of the Spider”. Shannon and the Clams are set to follow-up 2018’s Onion on August 20th with their sixth full-length, Year of the Spider. After dropping the lead single, “Midnight Wine”, last month, the Bay Area garage rockabilly quartet are today previewing the effort with the title track. “Year of the Spider” puts a ’70s doo-wop spin on some troubling experiences lead singer Shannon Shaw went through over the last two years. As Shaw tells Consequence, “‘Year of the Spider’ is essentially the summation of my 2019 and 2020. I was being stalked by a peeping tom for months and months all while my dad was going through radiat...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-24T19:06:39+00:00“>May 24, 2021 | 3:06pm ET King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have updated their post-pandemic return to North America, rescheduling that 2020 tour — including those three marathon shows — for 2022. The Aussie outfit had promised a trio of three-hour shows that would span their entire 15-album discography. Since then they’ve dropped L.W. and K.G., and with their new LP Butterfly 3000 due out next month, that catalogue is about to run 18 (!) albums deep. Fans will be treated to a career-spanning set the first night of the 2022 tour, when the psychedelic rockers take over the Greek Theatre in Berkely, CA, on October 2nd. They’ve also got two marathon...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-12T18:20:05+00:00“>May 12, 2021 | 2:20pm ET Shannon and the Clams are back to announce their sixth studio album Year of the Spider. The follow-up to 2018’s Onion drops August 20th, and the Bay Area rockers are heralding its coming with the new song “Midnight Wine”. The Clams recorded Year of the Spider at the Nashville studio of their Easy Eye Sound label boss, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Auerbach has songwriting credits on the album, but if “Midnight Wine” is any indication, the garage quartet has maintained its idiosyncratic approach to genre. Previous releases dipped a toe in punk and doo-wop, but “Midnight Wine” is a straight hit of acid from 1969...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-11T02:46:35+00:00“>May 10, 2021 | 10:46pm ET Prolific psych-rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have announced their latest album, Butterfly 3000. Marking the Aussie outfit’s 18th (!) full-length since 2012, the LP is due out June 11th. And that’s about all we know. King Gizzard announced the album via an Instagram post, revealing the effort won’t be preceded with any advanced singles. They also described the sound of Butterfly 3000 as “melodic + psychedelic,” calling it a “cross-eyed autostereogram.” An autostereogram is a visual illusion (those 3D images you have to look at crosseyed to see) that’s a fitting physical analog for KGATLW’s sound in general, so it’...

Prolific Aussie psych-rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are back with their latest album, L.W. It comes on the heels of K.G., which dropped just three months ago. Stream it via Bandcamp below. L.W. runs nine tracks long and includes the previously released singles “Pleura”, “O.N.E.”, and “If Not Now, Then When?” As its name implies, L.W. serves as a companion piece to K.G. Frontman Stu Mackenzie previously explained the group didn’t initially plan to release a pair of linked albums: We wanted to make new music that was somehow more colorful this time around, and which maybe reflected t”he many new things that we have learned along the way. After recording Flying Microtonal Banana the songs expanded when we played them live, so we felt ready to tackle the microtonal landscape again...
After a number of trial runs, The Flaming Lips have officially performed the “World’s First Space Bubble Concert”. The show took place on Friday, January 22nd at The Criterion in the group’s hometown of Oklahoma City. The audience was safely split up into 100 different giant, inflatable hamster balls, while each band member had their own individual translucent sphere up on stage. As to be expected from a Flaming Lips show, there were colorful balloons galore, and even some specially made silver ones that cathartically spelled out “FUCK YOU COVID-19”. As for the setlist, it consisted of 13 fan favorites, including “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt. 1”, “She Don’t Use Jelly”, “Race for the Prize”, and “Do You Realize??”. The gig also featured the live debut of “Flowers of Neptune 6”, off ...
Jimi Hendrix from Live in Maui, courtesy Experience Hendrix / Eddie Van Halen, photo by Philip Cosores A cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “If 6 Was 9” featuring guitarwork by the late Eddie Van Halen has been unearthed. The archival track was recorded in the ’90s with keyboardist David Garfield, who recovered and remastered the song for a new EP, Guitar Heros OTB, Vol. 1. Eddie shreds through a decadent solo on the classic Hendrix number. The Van Halen guitarist wasn’t known for his psychedelic flourishes, but he unfurls some mesmerizing licks that would have no doubt impressed Hendrix himself. After all, “If 6 Was 9” stands as a highlight on the latter’s 1967 opus Axis: Bold as Love, one of the great psych-rock albums of all-time. The cover came about when Garfield, a veteran keyboard and session ...
