Shannon and the Clams Announce New Album Year of the Spider, Share “Midnight Wine”: Stream

The follow-up to 2018’s Onion drops August 20th, and the Bay Area rockers are heralding its coming with the new song “Midnight Wine”. The Clams recorded Year of the Spider at the Nashville studio of their Easy Eye Sound label boss, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Auerbach has songwriting credits on the album, but if “Midnight Wine” is any indication, the garage quartet has maintained its idiosyncratic approach to genre. Previous releases dipped a toe in punk and doo-wop, but “Midnight Wine” is a straight hit of acid from 1969...

King Gizzard announced the album via an Instagram post, revealing the effort won’t be preceded with any advanced singles. Prolific Aussie psych-rockers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are back with their latest album, L.W. It comes on the heels of K.G., which dropped just three months ago. The Flaming Lips Perform World’s First Bubble Concert: Setlist + Video
After a number of trial runs, The Flaming Lips have officially performed the “World’s First Space Bubble Concert”. The show took place on Friday, January 22nd at The Criterion in the group’s hometown of Oklahoma City. The audience was safely split up into 100 different giant, inflatable hamster balls, while each band member had their own individual translucent sphere up on stage. As to be expected from a Flaming Lips show, there were colorful balloons galore, and even some specially made silver ones that cathartically spelled out “FUCK YOU COVID-19”. The archival track was recorded in the ’90s with keyboardist David Garfield, who recovered and remastered the song for a new EP, Guitar Heros OTB, Vol. 1. Eddie shreds through a decadent solo on the classic Hendrix number. The Van Halen guitarist wasn’t known for his psychedelic flourishes, but he unfurls some mesmerizing licks that would have no doubt impressed Hendrix himself. Those crazy SOBs actually did it. On Tuesday night, The Flaming Lips performed their first concert for a live audience that was entirely protected in inflatable space bubbles. Taking place at the Criterion in the band’s hometown of Oklahoma City, the short gig was half test run for future concerts, half music video shoot (via Brooklyn Vegan). Setlist.fm notes The Flaming Lips performed a dance remix of “Assassins of Youth” as well as “Brother Eye”, both tracks from their latest LP, American Head. The Flaming Lips’ live shows have long been synonymous with space bubbles, but the coronavirus has forced them to take things to the next level. Instead of just frontman Wayne Coyne rolling around in a giant, inflatable hamster ball, they’ve lately been putting a bubble around every member of the band — and the audience. They did it on Fallon, they did it on Colbert, and now they’re trying to do it in an actual music venue.
