Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert was a heavy affair, and not even seasoned professional Stewart Copeland was immune to getting emotional. The Police drummer, who performed at the event, reflected on the evening in an interview with CBS This Morning, where he particularly gushed about watching Hawkins’ son, Shane, sit in behind the kit with his father’s band. “I started crying,” Copeland said. “He’s got it. He’s got such power, enthusiasm. He’s got his father’s stance, musical language. That was really emotional to see young Shane up there.” Watch the full clip below. 16-year-old Shane Hawkins joined Foo Fighters for the penultimate song of the six-hour evening, playing drums for the classic “My Hero.” The circumstances alone made it an incredible — if not difficult to watc...

Greta Van Fleet shot out of a cannon when they debuted about five years ago. With a throwback sound, the band immediately topped the rock charts and are now headlining large-scale venues worldwide. While Greta Van Fleet have certainly experienced their own share of popularity, bassist Sam Kiszka questions the integrity of a lot of “popular music” he hears on the radio today. When discussing the band’s most recent album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate, on the latest episode of Consequence’s Kyle Meredith With … podcast, Kiszka commented, “It’s kind of the story of mankind … we frame it in a different way, just so you can see it in a different way. The best thing we can hope for is [being] thought-provoking.” Advertisement Related Video He continued, “We listen to a lot of stuff, not by choice,...
Trent Reznor didn’t attend Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert, but like the rest of us, he was moved by the event from afar. The artist discussed watching the concert at a recent Nine Inch Nails show, praising the tribute as “very touching and sincere.” Nine Inch Nails performed at the Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 3rd, the same day the Taylor Hawkins tribute occupied London’s Wembley Stadium. During NIN’s show, Reznor asked the crowd, “Did any of you happen to catch the tribute to Taylor Hawkins today? I thought, ‘I’ll tune in, I knew Taylor. He was a really sweet guy.’ I know a lot of friends were playing, I started watching it, and three hours later I’m still watching. And I’ve got tears in my fucking eyes.” Reznor continued: “It got me thinking. If you haven’t seen...
A third “child pornography” lawsuit brought against Nirvana by Spencer Elden, who was photographed naked at four months old for the album cover of 1991’s Nevermind, has been dismissed by a US District Judge in Los Angeles. The ruling will prevent Elden from filing a fourth lawsuit, leading lawyers representing Nirvana to claim that the suit has come to a “final conclusion,” though Elden has suggested he will appeal. Elden had sought damages from surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, as well as the estate of Kurt Cobain, photographer Kirk Weddle, and multiple record labels. As Reuters reports, Judge Fernando Olguin wrote that Elden’s lawsuit was invalid from the beginning because the statute of limitations had expired after ten years, and “plaint...

Among the many special moments at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert Saturday night (Sept. 3) was Paul McCartney and Chrissie Hynde‘s unexpected duet of the Beatles‘ “Oh! Darling.” The Abbey Road ballad hadn’t been “done since we recorded it 100 years ago,” McCartney pointed out to the crowd at London’s Wembley Stadium. He stepped onstage with Hynde amid the Foo Fighters‘ headlining set at the nearly six-hour event of music celebrating the life of the late Hawkins. Foo Fighters performed for the first time since drummer Taylor Hawkins’ tragic March passing on Saturday, taking over Wembley Stadium in England for a star-studded tribute to the musician. They were joined a huge roster of musicians at the concert — from Hawkins’ self-proclaimed idols to artists he made music with outside of his main band. Among those who performed were Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Liam Gallagher, and Travis Barker. There were also unexpected reunions (Them Crooked Vultures and James Gang), surprise guests (Paul McCartney!), and members of the band’s own family: Shane Hawkins and Olivia Grohl each spent time on stage. Some of the biggest names in music turned out to honor Taylor Hawkins during Foo Fighters’ all-star tribute concert at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday. By night’s end, however, the most memorable performances came courtesy of a pair of newcomers — albeit who have some legendary rock music pedigree. Shane Hawkins, Taylor’s 16-year-old son, filled in for his father during Foo Fighters’ penultimate performance of the night — a powerful rendition of “My Hero.” Young Shane beat the kit with the forcefulness of two drummers, his father no doubt playing along in spirit. Earlier in the evening, Dave Chappelle shared an anecdote about the time he met Shane backstage at a past Foo Fighters concert. “I met a kid, who must have been 12 or 13 years old, and I asked him, cause he had skate sho...
Them Crooked Vultures briefly reunited during the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday (Sept. 3). The rock supergroup — featuring Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin‘s John Paul Jones — joined forces onstage for the first time in more than 12 years to honor the late Foos drummer, who died in earlier this year at age 50. The surprise moment followed a video tribute from Elton John, who couldn’t appear at the all-star event because of a scheduling conflict. Joined by guitarist Alain Johannes, the rock outfit fittingly launched with a cover of John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” followed by their song “Gunman” and QOTSA’s “Long Slow Goodbye.” Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and ...
