EDM.com proudly publishes four installments of annual year-end coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagination of the artists who dedicate their lives to music creation. To honor their fearless creativity and profound dedication to their craft, we’ve recognized 10 of the best electronic music producers of 2021. Laxcity From the feel-good future bass of his Disconnect EP to the textured synths on “melodies from heaven,” Laxcity took over 2021 with his wistfully dreamy takes on the electro...

Rome in Silver’s Distinct Sonic Identity Shines in New EP, “Makeshift Moon”

Known for his vibrant, versatile, and forward-thinking sound, Rome In Silver is without a doubt one of the most exciting emerging names in dance music. Having truly found his distinct sonic identity over the past couple of years, the SoCal producer came to San Holo’s bitbird and Canadian tastemaker Monstercat to release two massively successful EPs, and has now finally unveiled the third and final chapter of his trilogy in the form of 5-track EP called Makeshift Moon. Arguably Rome In Silver’s most sonically diverse EP to date, Makeshift Moon sees the virtuosic producer combine eerie synths and resonant bells on “Mosaic,” bring together indietronica sensibilities on “Never Be The One” (with Lhasa Petik) and co-direct his first music video for the funky gem “Like Y...

Mindchatter Calls on Rome in Silver for Scintillating “Night Goggles” Remix

Mindchatter made waves when he closed out 2020 with the release of his debut album, Imaginary Audience. To kick off 2021, he’s now enlisted the help of fellow rising star Rome In Silver to deliver a stunning new remix of one of the album’s standout cuts, “Night Goggles.”   The dreamy, hypnotic soundscapes Mindchatter produced in the original are left intact in Rome in Silver’s rendition. The Orange County-based young gun was able to build on those soothing melodies while simultaneously making them more upbeat for the dance-floor. His delicate use of synths and electric guitar round the rework out beautifully to compliment Mindchatter’s vocal performance rather than overshadow it.  “The contrast of sounds and ideas in Mindch...

Rome in Silver Delivers Haunting Remix of Biicla’s “No Place”

Biicla‘s short time in the dance music scene has been nothing short of excellent, to say the least. Earlier this year, he released his debut album No Place, as well as remixed Zeds Dead and DROELOE‘s “Stars Tonight.” Today, Biicla has tapped Rome in Silver for a haunting remix of “No Place.” Rome in Silver’s delicate touch is exactly what “No Place” needed. His remix feels like an extension of the original, chilling things out while still adding plenty of new elements. The vocal has been subdued and blended in with the faint piano chords and booming kicks while the drop has been completely transformed into an ethereal moment. Rome in Silver’s remix of “No Place” highlights the intricate qualities in the origi...

Rome in Silver and Bonnema Flip Classic Gorillaz Tune “Clint Eastwood” Into Midtempo Mayhem

It’s no easy feat to take on a Gorillaz track, which many can argue is perfect as is. However, Rome in Silver is here to prove that notion wrong with his flip of “Clint Eastwood.” To aid him on his journey, he’s enlisted the help of his roommate, fellow bass producer Bonnema. Rome is known for delivering the unexpected with his releases, consistenly keeping his fans on their toes. Will they get a drum & bass track? Or maybe a house or future bass hit? The answer to that question relative to his “Clint Eastwood” edit is none of the above. Rome In Silver has flexed his dark midtempo bass skills this time around, transforming the original while keeping Damon Albarn‘s classic voice as the centerfold while he and Bonnema unravel mind-...
