John Summit was not going to miss his New Year’s Eve performance in San Francisco for anything. The house music star was scheduled for a solo performance followed by a back-to-back DJ set with Kaskade to ring in 2023, but flight delays led to the “most stressful 24 hours of [his] life.” Just over two hours before his 10:45pm set time, Summit left his performance at San Diego’s Proper NYE festival to arrive at the airport by 9pm, only to find out that his plane was missing. “so my jet broke down and the only other option is booking a jumbo jet which only costs my life savings to make it to sf in time and u KNOW ya boi booked it,” Summit tweeted. Crypto hotspots continue to thrive despite FTX collapse

The sudden failure of FTX has left many people questioning the impact this will have on the cryptocurrency ecosystem. For instance, it remains questionable whether or not crypto hotspots will continue to flourish or if there will be a decline in innovation.  While it may be too soon to fully understand the impact of the FTX collapse, industry leaders within crypto-friendly geographies believe that the FTX failure will not hamper innovation. For example, Dubai — which has been dubbed as one of the most innovative regions for crypto and blockchain development — continues to see ecosystem activity. Most recently, The Algorand Foundation, the organization driving the growth of the Alogrand blockchain, hosted its second annual Decipher conference in Dubai. The event took place Nov. 29–30, ...

Look Inside SOMA Tent, the Best Dancefloor at Outside Lands 2022

Not all festivals even try to deliver nine separate stages. In fact, most don’t. But for anyone who was in attendance for San Francisco’s 14th annual Outside Lands festival, it was a variety-lover’s paradise. Some stages were in open fields and others were tucked away in acoustically advantageous pockets in the sprawling hills of Golden Gate Park. One of the most lovable features of Outside Lands is the emulsion of crowds. In addition to offering ample opportunities to discover new music, when you find your vibe you’re probably not too far from finding your tribe.  Alive Coverage The importance of this relationship doesn’t escape the leadership at Another Planet Entertainment and SuperFly. In fact, they produce a degree of scale that greatly eclipses other music festivals on the...

To Live and Die in San Francisco

It’s Monday morning. The weekend is still sagging in my ears. Coffee is supreme. I have this spot on Geary Street that opens early, serves the perfect medium drip and isn’t so hipster that I need to discuss their facial hair or my sneakers. As I scurry along, the fog already clinches the Bay, I hopscotch right into a stand-off. Two humans, dressed in sleeping bags and holding bottles of hooch are having a barney. A lovers quarrel perhaps. A little angrier than I could muster at dawn, but here we are. I pause, deciding whether to politely turn around and walk some other way to give them their privacy, or, to be the eternal New Yorker and pretend it’s a city, and walk on by as if they simply do not exist.  My choice gets altered by the tiniest human standing right behind me, holding a b...

Watch Kaskade Perform From a Bird’s-Eye View of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge

Kaskade may be positioning himself as a wonder of the modern musical world.  As the lack of in-person shows persisted through 2020, Kaskade wholly embraced the idea of bringing dance music where it hasn’t gone before, and if recent events are any indication, his appetite for adventure remains alive and well.  First, he brought his show to the breathtaking Grand Canyon—one of the seven wonders of the natural world—where he performed atop a transparent, horseshoe-shaped walkway made of glass. Now, he’s checking off another box by playing at one of the seven wonders of the modern world: the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge. Kaskade went bigger than ever for this remote performance with multiple camera angles capturing the surrounding scene in immersive detail. Pe...
