I’m Already Thinking About Sandals—These Are the New Trends I Like

There are far more important things I’m hoping for this year, but many of them feel far-reaching and beyond reality. So as silly as it may sound, tapping to a new sandal trend for spring/summer 2021 at least feels achievable, and even more exciting than it has done in years past. I’ve never been one to turn down a new pair of sandals—they are the thing I look forward to wearing most when the weather turns—and this season won’t be any different as the wide and enticing variety on offer is enough to tempt even the most hardened sneaker-wearer. Even if my fancy flip-flops, box-fresh Birkenstocks or retro kittens heels only get as far as around the block for my neighbours to enjoy, that will be good enough for me. Hotter climes and exot...

The Timeless Flat Shoe That We’ll All Be Wearing in 2021

If there was a prize for 2020‘s most redundant item of clothing it would surely be the stiletto. With parties cancelled and weddings postponed, the high heel has been relegated to the dusty depths of our wardrobes, along with the likes of bikinis and workwear. Yep, it’s been a rough old year for the party wear staple. However, there is a silver lining to the stiletto’s near-extinction, and it’s the prolific rise-and-rise of the flat shoe.  You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. It’s Still Freezing, but These Sandals Will Sell Out Before Spring Arrives

Sandal brand Arizona Love popped up on my radar a couple of years ago when I spotted a steady stream of Instagram influencers wearing the printed trek sandals. From Erica Davies to our very own Who What Wear columnist Monikh, the sandal brand seemed to appeal to everyone whatever their personal style. There was only one problem: They kept selling out. Thankfully, the brand has created even more styles and has been restocked on various online retailers.  Much like the Velcro “dad” sandals by Chanel, Teva‘s classic hikers and all the other iterations before and after, these are sandals of the practical variety. While they’re a traditional hiking style, the multicoloured fabric wrapped around the straps makes them so much more fun. The bra...

Ever Since Investing In These Sneakers, I Have Hardly Worn Anything Else

If I were to describe myself, I’d say I am a creature of habit. I tend to find something I like—be it a breakfast food, skincare staple or sunglass shape—and stick to it. Though there is no greater example of this personality trait than my love of Adidas Stan Smith sneakers.  It all started in 2015 when, as if over night, every editor in my office was wearing the white tennis shoe. As if a collective decision was made by the fashion community, suddenly everyone from journalists to designers and models had swapped their sky-high stilettos for this run-of-the-mill, relatively affordable sneaker. (At the time, its only rival seemed to be the equally-popular Gucci fur-lined loafer. Oh, who could forget those?)  You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are loo...

These Cult Boots Have Been Bestsellers for Over 60 Years

Having spent years training myself in the art of trend-hunting and It item–spotting, I could say confidently that I’m certain Dr. Martens boots are more popular than ever. In 2019, the heritage footwear brand reported double-digit growth (revenue stacks up now to a pretty cool £454.4 million—NBD), and that translates very visibly into just how often I spot girls wearing Docs on the pavements of my home city (London) as well as on my Instagram feed, within celebrity echelons and in street style galleries. If You’re a Shoe Person, Prepare to Gawp at These Cinderella Shoes

Lockdown has been hard in so many ways, but just looking at Mach & Mach’s rhinestone bow–adorned slingbacks is enough to fill us with the optimism we need to see it through and begin imagining how excellent our new shoes will look under the light of a disco ball. Dare to dream. In a slew of pretty hues, including cake frosting–inspired pink and blue, rich emerald, and dazzling pewter, their appeal is undeniable. They’re the sort of shoes we can imagine Miss Piggy cosplaying as Cinderella would wear, which, if you were in any doubt, is a good thing. They’re fabulous, sassy, bold, and playful. They’re sartorial endorphins. They’re sublime enough to make fashion editors with minimal aesthetics swoon. And they’re proving a hit, even amidst our ongoing social hiatus. You Deserve to Mak...

Abuja residents: Why we buy ‘second hand’ clothes

Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Bwari Area Council say they patronise the clothes not only because of its affordability but also for the upgraded standard. The buyers spoke in separate interviews with newsmen at the Dutse-Alhaji market on Sunday in Abuja. The buyers were seen patronising the items from their dealers in the market, which was known for the cheap sale of second hand clothing in the district. Ada Micheal, one of the buyers, told newsmen that when it came to especially shoes, school or women bags, she preferred the second hand ones because they were almost new and last longer. ” Not all of these items you see here are fairly used; most of them are new or almost new. ” Some even come with tags from probably the stores they were initially hung for sale or...

The Most Comfortable Walking Boots For Taking a Long, Cosy Stroll Through the Park

The colder months can get a bit grim when we’re staying safe inside, but luckily we can still enjoy the outdoors by taking longs walks through nearby parks, forests, and wetlands. Before you get suited up for your next leisurely stroll, we highly recommend keeping your feet comfortable and warm with some of the best walking boots and trainers that we’ve picked out just for you. A long walk is a million times more fun when you’re bundled up and wearing appropriate clothing. Depending on what kind of terrain you’re trekking for your time outside, you’re going to want to invest in a pair of shoes that have a good grip on the soles, and a good quality insulated inner-lining. For days when the weather is a bit wet and parks get muddy, a waterproof upper is key; and...

A Definitive List of the Shoes Taking Over in 2021

Shoes. Remember those? All right, so we may be being a touch dramatic, but there’s no denying that, over the past year, shoes (and bags for that matter), have taken a back seat and, instead, we’ve developed some new shopping habits. In lieu of treating ourselves to a new pair of heels to wear with your elegant wedding guest dress, we snapped up loungewear, knits, and candles in numbers never before seen.  Still, that was last 2020 and right now we’re focussed on being optimistic; optimistic that our daily outfits in 2021 will call for something other than a slipper (don’t worry though, they’re not completely obsolete).  So, which shoe trends are we kicking 2021 off with? We’re sure you’ll be pleased to hear that c...

Like It or Not, Clogs Are Back, and They’re Coming to Get You

Among the Who What Wear team, I’m known for loving an “ugly” shoe. Case in point: my thoughts on how Crocs are going to be big in 2021. While that might be an “ugly” shoe too far for some, style-adjacent to the Crocs is the clog, which is also coming back for 2021. It might seem like the same shoe but is actually a little different, and (sorry Crocs), much cooler. Last summer, I was drawn to clogs when I spotted Fabrizio Viti‘s daisy versions. I own a pair of the denim ones and while I didn’t have anywhere to wear them last summer, I can’t wait to style them à la Lucy Williams and pair with socks. As for the rest of fashion, I can really pinpoint the moment we turned towards loving clogs and that was when Hermès debuted th...

Group moves to reintegrate displaced persons

Agence France-Presse The initiator of The Skilled Women Initiative (TWINI), Chizom Nwankwo, has said the group intensified efforts in re-integrating some internally displaced persons in Abuja. Nwankwo said the displaced persons would be re-integrated into the community through the group’s learn, earn and blend model. She said with the plan, beneficiaries are taught vocational and technical skills of their choice, added with entrepreneurial skills to help them earn money. She said the beneficiaries had agreed to leave the internally displaced camp after 18 months. She also said the group created a market for the products to encourage beneficiaries, adding, “This is just like a factory. They are making soaps, shoes, cloths. If we are able to gather them and give them jobs, we create another ...

The Boot Trends That Are Going to Be Big in 2021 According to Zara

From royals to celebrities, influencers to editors, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone (fashion-fanatic or otherwise) who doesn’t have an item of clothing from Zara in their wardrobe. The Spanish retailer has developed a reputation for itself over the years for creating affordable trend-led pieces, as well as contemporary basics which can act as the cornerstone of any closet.  Though, Zara’s mass-market appeal doesn’t just end at clothing. No, the brand’s footwear is equally as coveted and this winter, in particular, we’ve spotted quite a number of expensive-looking boots among their collection. (Many of which we predict will sell out in no time. Sadly, these styles don’t often hang around for long.)   You Deserve to Mak...
