TikTok says Trump Administration has Yet to Review Ban Deadline

Sourced from Cosmico TikTok has called for the US Court of Appeals to review the ban by Trump administration’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). The social media platform says that it has been weeks since it received an update about the deadline for ByteDance – TikTok’s parent company – to sell off US assets. “For a year, TikTok has actively engaged with CFIUS in good faith to address its national security concerns, even as we disagree with its assessment,” reads a statement from TikTok. /* custom css */ .tdi_3_4dd.td-a-rec-img{ text-align: left; }.tdi_3_4dd.td-a-rec-img img{ margin: 0 auto 0 0; } “In the nearly two months since the President gave his preliminary approval to our proposal to satisfy those concerns, we have offered detailed solutions to finalize t...

Does TikTok Have More ‘Dreams’ Up Its Sleeves?

Serendipity and all of these efforts made “Dreams” the first catalog hit revived by TikTok, which over the past year-and-a-half has consistently broken new songs, such as recent Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers “Mood” by 24kGoldn (featuring iann dior) and “Savage Love (Laxed — Siren Beat)” by Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo. The 1977 single, which also topped the Hot 100 over 40 years ago, has now been used in nearly a half-million TikTok videos, and on-demand audio streams on Spotify and other services have almost quadrupled (while Fleetwood Mac’s overall catalog of streams doubled). Warner may have made over $250,000 in incremental revenue on “Dreams” — plus another $250,000 on the increased popularity of the rest of the...

Lindsey Buckingham Is Also Vibin’, Records His Own “Dreams” TikTok: Watch

Like cranberry juice, the “Dreams” TikTok challenge started out sweet and then quickly ran its course. Former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham is the latest to hop on the bandwagon, sharing a 15-second video on social media. The trend was started by the slick skateboarding of Nathan Apodaca, who later received a truck full of cranberry juice from Ocean Spray for his trouble. It got new life when Mick Fleetwood joined TikTok to recreate Apodaca’s video, and then Stevie Nicks laced up her skates to get in on the fun. All the attention pushed “Dreams” onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time since 1977, while making Rumors a top-ten album. In announcing his own video, Buckingham wrote that he, “Made this with my girls this weekend.” The clip opens on a...

43 Years After its Release, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors is Again a Top 10 Album

Ever since Nathan Apodaca jumped on his skateboard, with a jug of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry in hand, and began singing along to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”, the band’s music has been surging up the charts. Last week, “Dreams” re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 21, marking Fleetwood Mac’s first such appearance on the chart since 1977. And now, the album from which the singles comes from, Rumours, has climbed all the way into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 Album Charts. According to Billboard, Rumours earned 33,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending October 15, good enough for the No. 7 spot on this week’s charts. Upon its release in 1977, the album spent a record-setting 31 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but this marks Rumours’ first Top 10...

How Camilo Became TikTok’s Most-Followed Latin Artist

“Whenever he has an idea or before he posts something, he asks for my opinion,” she says. “Everything posted on TikTok is a team effort.” She says that they usually plan a dance challenge long before a single release, dedicating a day to think of the choreography with help from their friend Paula Macher, who has over 1 million TikTok followers herself. “[She] knows all the latest trends and popular dance moves,” says Evaluna. “In the end, it helps push the song we’re promoting.” Noel Nuez, TikTok’s director of operations for Spanish South America, believes that kind of collaboration has helped Camilo rake in new followers so quickly: “He’s surrounded by family and colleagues who are also well-integrated on TikTok themselves, which enables him to viralize across other top profiles and ...

This whole saga started when Nathan Apodaca uploaded a video of himself cruising along the highway on a skateboard while drinking a jug of Ocean Spray’s Cran-Raspberry to Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 hit from Rumors. Immediately after, TikTok users began recreating the moment in their own ways, filming themselves singing along with a bottle of the juice in hand. Now, the band’s own Mick Fleetwood has launched his own TikTok account — just to pay tribute to Apodaca’s video. The legendary musician posted his own version of the clip, in which he rolls along (it seems he’s being pulled somehow) and sips from a full bottle of Ocean Spray. US Federal Court Delays TikTok Ban

Sourced from Cosmico TikTok has been awarded a life-line after a US federal court ruled to delay its impending ban. Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump said the popular Chinese video-sharing platform’s ability to handle user data as well as its relationship with parent company, ByteDance, raised national security concerns. The Verge reports that motivation for the ban stems from the fact that “lawmakers allege that TikTok could be pressured into handing over data or other intelligence to the Chinese Communist Party”. However, TikTok hit back saying that was “led by an American CEO, with hundreds of employees and key leaders across safety, security, product, and public policy here in the US. We have no higher priority than promoting a safe and secure app experience for our use...

Certain TikTok Accounts are Promoting Scam Apps, Research Shows

Sourced from Cosmico Avast claims to have found a total of seven “adware scam apps that were available on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store”. These apps have since been downloaded over 2.4 million times, generating roughly $500,000 for the creators. The security firm also discovered three accounts that are ‘aggressively’ pushing the apps on TikTok, one of which has more than 300K followers, while on Instagram a profile with more than 5,000 followers has been promoting one of the apps. “The apps we discovered are scams and violate both Google’s and Apple’s app policies by either making misleading claims around app functionalities or serving ads outside of the app and hiding the original app icon soon after the app is installed,” says Jakub Vávra, Avast threat analyst. “It i...
