We didn't plan on staying a month in Colombia. After spending longer than we had planned in the South Pacific, we were wary that we had only six months for an area far larger than what we had seen thus far. Of course, our journey through Cartagena, Santa Marta, Taganga, Medellin, Popayán and San Agustin warranted more than the two weeks we had planned. Our friends and family were worried about us staying in this historically volatile land but we found a lively, absorbing and intriguing country that was as enchanting as its more frequented neighbours. Along the way, we learnt some interesting facts about Colombia we thought it useful to share. The post 24 interesting facts about Colombia appeared first on Atlas & Boots.
A YouTuber started traveling the world to see whether he could survive solely on Bitcoin as a means of payment. In the latest episode of Cointelegraph’s ‘Crypto Stories’ series, Paco from India explained how he started his journey from the city of Bengaluru and learned from the example of travel pioneers who came before him, including Nellie Bly, who circumnavigated the globe in the late 19th century in less than 73 days. Paco worked a variety of jobs before reading up on Bitcoin (BTC) and made a big decision. “This is 2021,” said Paco. “I will travel the world by using Bitcoin.” The YouTuber added: “When my journey started, I had zero dollars. I sold my furniture, got $200 of Bitcoin, and as soon as I started on day one, the first Bitcoin meetup we had in Bengaluru, one guy came and gave ...
The tiny Portuguese archipelago of Madeira has “adopted” Bitcoin (BTC) — but what does that mean? The announcement, made during the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami, has spurned confusion and misinformation. Miguel Albuquerque, the president of the Regional Government of Madeira, hopped on the stage in April to announce: “I believe in the future, and I believe in Bitcoin.” He also said he would work to “create in Madeira a fantastic environment for Bitcoin.” However, the details remained unclear. Cointelegraph spoke to André Loja, a Madeiran entrepreneur who spearheaded the plan to bring BTC to the archipelago in the Atlantic ocean, to find out how Bitcoin is shaping the islands’ development. Madeira exploded onto the Bitcoin world map on April 7 when JAN3 CEO Samson Mow proudly ...

Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday revealed plans to lift most of England’s legal coronavirus restrictions, including face masks and social distancing from July 19, urging personal responsibility rather than government edict. Johnson had initially aimed for a full reopening on June 21, but was forced to push back the date because of a surge in the highly contagious Delta variant. That variant now accounts for nearly all new Covid-19 cases in Britain, and infection rates have soared, sparking concern. But mass vaccinations have stopped a resultant surge in hospital admissions or deaths. “This pandemic is far from over, it certainly won’t be over by the 19th,” warned Johnson. “We must reconcile ourselves, sadly, to more deaths from Covid. “There’s only one reason why we can contemplate g...
Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic is confident his side have done enough to reach the last 16 at Euro 2020 after a 3-1 win over Turkey on Sunday but he criticised the long distances his side have had to travel during the tournament. Xherdan Shaqiri scored two superb goals as Switzerland secured third place in Group A at Euro 2020 with the win against Turkey, but they now face an anxious wait to see if they will reach the last 16. The Swiss, who finished level on four points with Wales but behind on goal difference, will hope to secure a spot in the knockouts as one of the four best third-placed finishers from the six groups. “We scored a few goals but unfortunately we had more chances we didn’t convert,” Petkovic said. “It wasn’t a perfect game but it was a good game.” “It should be enou...
