It turns out the Food Network can’t beat Bobby Flay. After stalled negotiations last month prompted reports that the longtime host would leave the channel after nearly three decades, Flay and Food Network have reached an agreement on a new three-year contract, according to Variety. This pact will keep the Beat Bobby Flay namesake on Food Network until the middle of the decade, and right up to his 30th anniversary on the channel. The new contract also expands the scope of content opportunities available to Flay’s production company, Rock Shrimp, which handles most of his Food Network shows. This news arrives right as Discovery is expected to make some exponential growth thanks to its pending merger with WarnerMedia. “I have an amazing family at Food Network and a great foundation,...
Leah and Ayanna had not appeared on The Challenge together until All Stars>, but the two women displayed an unforgettable show of camaraderie that will unite them in the series’ history forever. And it unfolded as they were competing in an elimination, where one woman would stay and the other would be the first female to be ousted from Season 2. During the inaugural elimination “Dead Weight,” the women — Ayanna came in last place during the first Challenge Boarding Party while Leah was voted in — were tasked with dragging three coffins each across the arena, with each coffin containing chains. The goal: secure their chains to a post, and the competitor to place their chains on the pole the fastest wins. But there was a catch: Two coffins had longer chains i...

The upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye is set apart from other MCU adventures by a number of factors, but here’s a big one: It’s officially a holiday story. The series begins in the days before Christmas, with O.G. Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) trying to spend some time with his family — until, of course, things go sideways. This marks the first major MCU project to be set at Christmas since Iron Man 3, and as part of an extended interview with Consequence, head writer Jonathan Igla (Mad Men) explained that the series being set at Christmas was something that came out of early conversations in the writers’ room, as they established a structure for the season where each episode represents one day in the week leading up to Christmas. As Igla says, “I love the compressed time frame and th...
Peter Aykroyd, an Emmy-nominated writer and actor who worked on Saturday Night Live in its fifth season, has died at the age of 66. SNL confirmed the news with a tribute during the November 20th show hosted by Simu Liu. The cause of death has not been revealed. Born November 19th, 1955, Aykroyd followed in his older brother Dan Aykroyd‘s comedic footsteps, first joining the Toronto Second City troupe and then landing on SNL during the 1979-80 season. Along with the rest of the writer’s room, he shared an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program. Peter Aykroyd collaborated with Dan several times throughout his career. Peter is credited with the story for Dan’s screenplay for the 1991 movie Nothing But Trouble, which s...
The King of Staten Island has struck again. On last night’s Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson sent up a loving parody of his hometown with a little help from a few friends. Titled “Walking in Staten,” the musical short spoofed Marc Cohn‘s 1991 hit “Walking in Memphis,” and even featured a cameo from the singer-songwriter himself. The clip also included appearances from Big Wet, Method Man, and local Staten Island fixture Chris the Hobby Guy — not to mention the rather alarming amount of wild turkeys outside the Staten Island University Hospital. “And I’m walking in Staten/ This place is the reason I turned out weird/ Walking in Staten/ And thanks to New Jersey, we now have deer/ Walking in Staten/ Where everybody’s dreams go right down the drain/ Walking in Staten/ Babies here are born wi...
Nilsa Prowant is now “Mrs. Gus 2.0”! The MTV Floribama Shore star said “I do” to Gus Gazda on Friday, November 19. Gray’s parents tied the knot in Panama City Beach. Chi chi’s up for the bride! “Mr & Mrs Gazda,” Nilsa captioned the first official photograph from her wedding day. Nilsa — who made her MTV debut with her Floribama cohorts back in 2017 — began sharing photos with Gus in November 2019. The couple announced in December 2020 that Baby Gazda would be arriving in May 2021 — and soon, after Nilsa revealed she would be a boy mom. Gus made sure Nilsa’s 27th birthday was a day to remember when he asked “to spend forever with him.” Baby Gray arrived several months later in May — and now Nilsa i...
Billie Eilish will get a chance to show off her comedy chops as host of Saturday Night Live next month. The Happier Than Ever singer will pull double duty on the show’s December 11th episode, serving as both host and musical guest. The 21-year-old Eilish previously made her SNL debut as a musical guest in September 2019. She’s now set to join a rare crop of performers who pulled double duty as host and musical guest on the same episode. To date, 41 artists can claim that feat, with Nick Jonas being the most recent one in 2020. Following a double dose of Eilish, on December 18th SNL will stage its annual Christmas episode with Sexiest Man Alive, Paul Rudd, returning to host for his fifth time. He’ll be joined by musical guest Charli XCX, who previously appeared on the show way back in ...
For 70 minutes, the new New York Times Presents documentary Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson digs deep into one of the 21st century’s most controversial moments: the 9/16th of a second reveal of Janet Jackson’s nipple during the 2004 Super Bowl. One big detail delivered by the doc’s new reporting on the incident and its aftermath may explain in part the major discrepancy between how Jackson and Justin Timberlake were treated at the time: Les Moonves’ ego. That year, both the Super Bowl and the 46th annual Grammy Awards aired on CBS, and in the week between the two events, Jackson issued multiple apologies for the Super Bowl show. But Moonves, as the chairman and CEO of CBS at the time, wasn’t satisfied and initially banned both Jackson and Timberlake from attending the Gramm...
MTV News: Tell us about your character, Whitney. Scott: Whitney is a girl who comes from a background where she’s had this really overbearing mom [Senator Evette Chase, played by Sherri Shepherd] and lived in her shadow her whole life. Now that she’s on her own, she’s finding her own footing. And with that freedom, she does some pretty silly things, but all in the name of finding herself and figuring out her path. It’s a little messy, it’s a little wrong, but it’s her journey. MTV News: How did you begin acting? Scott: I always liked to entertain like my family members. I’m a middle child, so I was always like, “Pay attention to me! I’m going to do a dance! I’m going to sing a song!” I would just imitate Beyoncé. My family members would all gift me...
Blockbuster is coming to Netflix. The streaming giant has announced it’s given a series order to a new comedy set in the last remaining Blockbuster video store in America. The single-camera comedy will be led by Randall Park, serving as the Marvel Cinematic Universe vet’s return to comedy after six seasons on ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat and a stint stepping back into Agent Jimmy Woo’s shoes for Disney+’s WandaVision. Call it the ultimate twist of fate, but producers for the 10-episode Netflix series have even bought the rights to use the one-time video franchise’s logo and uniforms in the show — a far cry from the days when Blockbuster dismissed the offer from Netflix creators Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph to sell the then-fledgling DVD-focused startup to the video rental behemoth for $50 m...
