David Arquette Acquires Rights to Bozo the Clown
With this year marking the 25th anniversary of Wes Craven’s first Scream film, David Arquette has shown no intention of distancing himself from anything and everything spooky. As if reprising his role as Woodsboro sheriff Dewey Riley in next year’s Scream reboot isn’t enough to cement his horror legacy, the actor has acquired the rights to a character we would argue is even more terrifying than Ghostface: Bozo the Clown. Arquette discussed the sale recently on Chicago’s WGN-TV, saying he’s been a longtime fan of the children’s entertainment icon. Last week, Dave Chappelle drew backlash for continuing his pattern of making derogatory jokes about transgender people in his Netflix special The Closer, but for now the streamer’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos is standing by his cash cow. In an internal memo obtained by Variety, Sarandos vowed not to pull the special from Netflix, citing creative freedom. US Marshals Catch Nine Sex Offenders in Operation Dunder Mifflin
The US Marshals Service carried out a sting operation in Scranton, Pennsylvania earlier this summer with a name tied to The Office. According to a press release dated October 4th, Operation Dunder Mifflin — presumably named after the beloved sitcom’s fictional paper company — was a multi-agency “effort to verify the registered addresses of convicted sex offenders” with help from both the Scranton Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Section. The operation was reportedly carried out from August 2nd to September 17th, and resulted in the arrest of nine individuals in violation of registered sex offender laws, and four others still being pursued by the Marshals Service.
