Several episodes of the Adult Swim series Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Boondocks, and The Shivering Truth have been “permanently retired due to cultural sensitivities,” The Daily Beast has learned. The Adult Swim archives are part of the massive library offered by new streaming service HBO Max. But certain controversial episodes didn’t migrate over. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is missing the Season 6 shocker “Shake Like Me”, in which Shake is bitten by a radioactive Black person, the experience of which changes his appearance and behavior to be more stereotypically Black. ATHF also arrived without the incomplete Season 5 episode “Boston”, which is a parody of a real-life bomb scare caused by the guerrilla marketing campaign for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film...
BTS Week on The Tonight Show got off to an explosive start highlighted by a pair of exhilarating performances. The Bangtan Boys will be front and center for every show through the end of the week. They then returned to the airwaves at the end of the episode for a show-stopping closing performance of “Idol”, from their 2018 album, Love Yourself: Answer. Replay both performances below. BTS have stormed through America in a way not seen since The Beatles. Their latest history-defying release was “Dynamite”, which became the first single by an all-South Korean group to top the Billb...
If you couldn’t tell, Halloween is a big deal when it comes to streaming. Netflix, Hulu, Shudder, and AMC are all offering countless tricks and treats for the month of October. Joining them is The Criterion Channel, and they may be a cut above the rest. As Bloody Disgusting reports, the prestigious channel is dialing things back to the ’70s for October 2020, dropping 29 vintage titles that prove horror looked better in bell bottoms and sequins. It’s a pristine lineup that would impress the likes of Joe Bob Briggs. “In the 1970s, everything was wilder, weirder, and more far-out—and horror movies were no exception,” Criterion announced in a statement. “This tour through the 1970s nightmare realm is a veritable blood feast of perverse pleasures from a time when gore, grime, and sleaze found a...
The Pitch: Like the first fall of snow in an open field, Fargo drifts back into this desolate year with its fourth season. Three years after Mary Elizabeth Winstead blew us away and Ewan McGregor won our hearts twice, FX’s black comedy/crime drama returns, this time focusing on two rival crime families and their struggle for control over 1950 Kansas City. In order to broker peace, Loy Cannon (Chris Rock), leader of the Cannon crime syndicate, and Donatello Fadda (Tommaso Ragno), head of the Italian mafia, trade their youngest sons to be raised by their enemies. A sudden turn of events leaves this new peace in jeopardy as both family heads struggle to navigate shifting loyalties and outside pressure. Meanwhile kooky nurse Oraetta Mayflower (Jessie Buckley) befriends her neighbor, high schoo...
Under normal circumstances, cartoon characters do not attend live sporting events. But the novel coronavirus has robbed us of normal circumstances, and so it makes sense that the denizens of South Park should appear as cutouts in the stands of a Denver Broncos football game. Via Sports Illustrated, the September 27th tussle between Denver and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also featured more than 5,000 flesh-and-blood fans. They watched their hometown heroes get shellacked by Tom Brady’s Bucs, 28-10. Surely their attention occasionally wandered from the gruesome on-field product to the colorful occupants of the south stands. According to Broncos’ reporter Benjamin Albright, every resident of South Park was represented. As pictures demonstrate, the illustrated fans a...
Bad news for Billy Butcher: It looks like Vought International is upping its game, as Amazon has fast-tracked a spinoff series from The Boys. The yet-untitled spinoff will be set in an American college exclusively for young supes. Vought, the corrupt mega-conglomerate behind the nation’s licensed superheroes, runs the school as a training ground for new caped “do-gooders.” As the students vie to land the best crusading contracts, they test their own “physical, sexual, and moral boundaries” — just like the elite members of The Seven. That means fans can expect all the insane R-rated exploits and satire of the original The Boys. Variety reports that Amazon is eager to develop the new show following the huge success of The Boys’ Season 2 premiere. Airing weekly instead of dropping all at once...
One of the best parts of spooky season is leaving horror movies on in the background all day. Well, AMC Fear Fest is keeping that tradition alive and well in 2020 with a month-long celebration of horror’s greatest hits. From Michael Myers to Chucky, Freddy Krueger to Jason Voorhees, the gang is all back to keep you company. Perhaps gang is an understatement. After all, this year’s crop spans 91 titles and includes some major, heavy-hitting franchises: Halloween, Friday the 13th, Tremors, and a smorgasbord of Stephen King adaptations. There are also a number of essential classics like The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, and From Dusk til Dawn. Even beyond the classics and rentals, AMC has a few other tricks and treats up its sleeve. The Walking Dead returns with more ghouls, the show’s spi...
Despite having a jam-packed career filled with dozens of iconic roles, Samuel L. Jackson is only just now gearing up for his first-ever regular television role. According to Variety, the legendary actor will be reprising his role as Nick Fury for a yet another new Marvel series on Disney+. Jackson first debuted as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a post-credits scene in 2008’s Iron Man. Fury’s been a linchpin of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since, appearing in 11 movies total, primarily in the Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers films. Most recently, he showed up in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Avengers: Endgame, and was digitally de-aged for a co-starring role in Captain Marvel. He’s also one of the few characters from the MCU movies to appear on the small scree...
Streaming from NBCUniversal’s Peacock, it’s Saturday Night Live! All 45 seasons of the sketch comedy series are coming to the streaming service on October 1st, marking the first time the full library has been available in one place in years. When Peacock launched over the summer, only the most recent five seasons were included alongside some “Best of” collections. Hulu, meanwhile, has continued to host Seasons 1-5 and 30-45, but episodes from 1981 to 2004 have been nowhere to be found. In fact, the last place the full SNL library could be seen was on NBCU’s comedy app Seeso, which only survived for about a year and a half between 2016 and 2017. Netflix and Hulu both held the complete catalog in the early 2010s, while a later deal put it on Yahoo for a brief period. The short-lived SNL...
Catfish just exposed more than just a con artist: It was the first time the docuseries featured a collision with popular subscription site OnlyFans. And the fiery confrontation that eventually erupted between a man looking for love and the person who’d deceived him was nearly too hot for TV. On this week’s episode, MTV detectives Nev and Kamie met a Detroit native named Ryan, who — like many others in COVID-mandated quarantine — had turned to Tinder to make new connections. About a month earlier, Ryan said, he’d matched with a 21-year-old restaurant worker named Micah, and what started with Instagram messages and Snapchat check-ins evolved into daily communication. Ryan was so invested in the new spark, he said, he’d even deleted Tinder. Still, Nev and Kamie had their doubts about Mi...
Saturday Night Live will return on October 3rd with its first new live episode since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic last March. Such a momentous occasion calls for an equally momentous host, so Lorne Michaels has called upon former SNL cast member Chris Rock. Since departing the show in 1993, Rock has only hosted SNL twice — once in 1996, and again in 2014. In recent years, however, he’s made several notable cameos as a guest on episodes hosted by Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, and Dave Chappelle. Now, Rock will get once again his own turn at hosting. He’ll be joined by Megan Thee Stallion, who will serve as the evening’s musical guest. The “Savage” rapper will be making her SNL debut. As previously reported, SNL’s entire cast from last season is returning for Season 47. Additionally, ...
