The Safdie Brothers Ink Deal with HBO

Benny and Josh Safdie, the brothers behind the instant cult favorite Uncut Gems, have signed a two-year, first-look deal with HBO. As THR reports, they’ll create new projects under their own banner of Elara Pictures. Two longtime Safdie collaborators, producer Sebastian Bear-McClard and writer Ronald Bronstein, are also along for the anxiety-inducing ride. All of their HBO efforts will be executive produced by A24, which had previously worked with the Safdie’s on Uncut Gems and Good Time. A24 has lately developed a robust relationship with Home Box Office, including producing the new hit Euphoria.  Interestingly, THR notes that the deal allows for A24 and Elara to partner up for “select projects outside of the HBO first look.” For now it’s unclear wh...

What’s Coming to Amazon Prime Video in June 2020

Amazon Prime Video can get confusing. Like its global namesake, the streaming service is a digital jungle of titles. That’s why each month Consequence of Sound puts together a full list of new TV and film titles being dropped into the thick of it. June 2020 is kind of meh. There aren’t many new titles, per se, though there are a number of sleazy and sticky popcorn classics. You know, like Hard Rain, or Double Jeopardy, or 2 Days in the Valley. All great trash to consume. What’s more, those who miss Jordan following The Last Dance can check out Space Jam. Saturday Night Fever is worth a boogie. And there’s also not one, not two, but seven goddamn Leprechaun movies to binge. Check out the entire list below and start stocking up on some snacks. To help round out your streaming sessions, be su...

Laura Harrier Is The Hollywood Star With A New York State Of Mind

By Crystal Bell Laura Harrier never dreamed of becoming an actor; it was more of an abstract fascination. Growing up, she put on plays and skits for her neighbors, eventually funneling that flair for exhibitionism into a successful teen modeling career. When after high school she moved from the Chicago suburbs to New York City — she was accepted to New York University but never attended, deciding instead to pursue modeling full-time — she thought she had her future figured out. But that’s the funny thing about dreams: Sometimes you don’t take them seriously until a tangible opportunity arises. After a few small-budget student films and a regular role on One Life to Live, Harrier felt the creative pull of Hollywood. It took years of supporting indie roles and abandoned pilots un...

What Was Angelina’s Favorite Moment From Her Jersey Shore Bachelorette Bash?

Angelina hit all of her pre-wedding Jersey Shore milestones — first, there was a bridal shower, and during the past few episodes, it was her ratchelorette bachelorette bash. “I feel like this bachelorette party was all I’ve ever wanted,” the future Mrs. Chris Larangeira stated during the last installment. “It was perfect. We were all on vacation together, like loving everything.” And even though the gang is saying “peace out, Nolers!” a lot happened: the ghost tour, the boys unexpectedly showing up and crashing the bash, a powdered sugar fight beignets, a strip club, Pauly and JWOWW almost doing sex and much more. But if the bridezilla bride-to-be had to choose a favorite moment from the Big Easy extravaganza, what would it be? “It was ...

At the time, Mel, who’s also an Ex on the Beach alum, divulged that she ...

Netflix’s Space Force Is A Waste of Space, Talent, Resources, Time: Review

The Pitch: In the Summer of 2018, the U.S. government announced a sixth branch of the armed forces, to be called the “Space Force.” A nation scratched their heads, but President Donald J. Trump tweeted out “Space Force all the way!” to the delight of his neo-conservative base and those who still think the current administration taps into a rich vein of comedy. It played to the tune of 128,000 likes. In January 2019, Netflix announced a new series based on the venture, to be developed by The Office’s Greg Daniels and Steve Carrell, with the latter starring. And now, for May 2020, Netflix’s Space Force arrives with a veritable Right Stuff-grade line-up of sitcom stars – Carrell, Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Ben Schwartz, Jane Lynch, Patrick Warburton, the late Fred Willard, and on and on – wi...

John Malkovich Gives Epic Preschool Graduation Speech: Watch

Imagine you’re sitting on the floor at home in front of your laptop for class, John Malkovich logs onto your Zoom meeting, and suddenly the Academy Award-nominated actor is giving you and your classmates the most bizarre graduation speech ever. That could be your reality if you were one of the toddlers who enrolled at Play ‘n’ Learn, a made-up preschool that hired Malkovich for their official ceremony on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This whole thing went down because Colbert decided to give The New Pope star the prestigious opportunity of giving advice to recent graduates. Instead of giving him access to ivy leagues right away, Colbert tested him out with a brief message to preschoolers… and it went as oddly as expected. After introducing himself by saying, “You might know me f...

Adult Swim Revives Tuca & Bertie for Season 2

Tuca & Bertie officially have their wings back. Season 2 of the animated anthropomorphic sitcom has been revived by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Created by Lisa Hanawalt, a producer and illustrator on BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie enjoyed just one season on Netflix before being canceled July 2019. The pulling of the plug came as a shock, as the TV series earned rave reviews right from the get-go. At the time, Hanawalt blamed the cancellation on Netflix’s reliance on algorithm data. “T&B is critically acclaimed and has repeatedly been called one of the best new shows of the year,” she said. “None of this makes a difference to an algorithm, but it’s important to me and the way I want to continue making art in this world.” Adult Swim, the proud home of Rick and Morty, ...

Rob Brydon on The Trip’s Final Odyssey to Greece: “I Love Making a Well-Timed Exit”

“I certainly think that comedy at the moment is highly valued,” says comedian Rob Brydon. “I think people just want to escape from this reality and laugh.” With The Trip to Greece, the latest and final entry in director Michael Winterbottom’s Trip series, Brydon and co-star Steve Coogan (who happens to be a seven-time BAFTA award winner) travel to new destinations to give audiences the opportunity to do just that, one celebrity impression at a time. The endless number of gorgeous Grecian locations the comedians travel through and to, alongside meals that cause us to salivate and emit envy in equal measure, offer a strange, but welcomed sense of escapism in these “Stay-At-Home” times. However, it is the seemingly effortless comedic chemistry between Brydon and Coogan that make the Trip film...
