Disney has dipped its toe into ad-supported streaming by launching the new Disney+ Basic plan. Initially only available in the US, the cheaper tier arrives roughly one month after rival streamer Netflix rolled out its own ad-supported subscription. It’s worth noting that Disney+ Basic launches with access to the platform’s entire catalog as opposed to Netflix’s ad-supported plan, which debuted without many popular TV shows and movies. However, the cheaper tier does come with some restrictions: It doesn’t allow downloads or come with extra features like GroupWatch and Dolby Atmos support. Along with Disney+ Basic, there is a reworked lineup of ad-supported Disney Bundles that come with Hulu, ESPN+, and/or live TV. Mike Flanagan is adding yet another Stephen King adaptation to his repertoire: Deadline reports that the Doctor Sleep filmmaker is reuniting with his frequent collaborator, producer Trevor Macy, for a new adaptation of the horror novelist’s The Dark Tower series. Flanagan told Deadline that The Dark Tower — which amalgamates elements of classic horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and Western — has been his dream project for quite a while. He envisions the adaptation as a TV series to run for five seasons, followed by two standalone features; considering King has penned nine books in the franchise since 1982, the filmmakers have a lot of material to pull from. The Dark Tower has been brought to the screen twice before: Nikolaj Arcel directed a 2017 movie for Sony starring Idris Elb...

Anne Heche had traces of cocaine, cannabinoids, and benzodiazepines in her system at the time of her death, but there is no evidence that drugs were a contributing factor. The 53-year-old actress died on August 11th, six days after crashing her car into a Los Angeles home. According a final autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner (via E Online), cannabinoids were detected in Heche’s urine but not in her blood sample, which is “consistent with prior use but not at the time of injury.” The blood sample also showed presence of benzoylecgonine, an inactive metabolite of cocaine. Meanwhile, the fentanyl detected in her urine was “consistent with therapeutic use” by the hospital. Advertisement Related Video A toxicology report also found no ...
Though The Office has found a new generation of fans in recent years thanks to streaming services, Mindy Kaling thinks the mockumentary sitcom is “so inappropriate now” and most of the characters “would be canceled” if the show was still airing. Kaling did double duty on The Office by serving as a writer and playing the bubbly Kelly Kapoor. She made the comments during a recent appearance on Good Morning America after being asked what her character would be doing today. “I think she probably would’ve quit Dunder Mifflin to become an influencer, and then probably be canceled, almost immediately,” Kaling said. “Actually, most of the characters on that show would be canceled by now.” Advertisement She added, “The writers who I’m still in touch with now, we talk about how so much of that show ...

After three seasons, 51 episodes, and more wigs than we care to remember, Matt Lucas has announced his departure from Great British Bake Off. Like former GBBO presenter Sandi Toksvig before him, Lucas has found that hosting two separate programs is too much of a good thing. “It’s been a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way of spending my summers, but it’s become clear to me that I can’t present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects,” he wrote in a social media statement. “I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else,” he continued. “I wish whoever takes over all the very best and I can’t wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!” Advertisement Related Video “Totally resp...

The official trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us has been revealed, and the looming threat from the first look and teaser has finally clicked into place with an expanded preview of the zombie apocalypse video game adaptation. The clip begins with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, as lead characters Joel and Ellie, traversing across country on a mission connected to the younger passenger’s apparent immunity to a devastating zombie virus. Over a cinematic spin on a-ha’s “Take On Me,” the pair confront an army of the infected, who appear throughout the trailer in varying stages of transformation into the monstrous “clickers,” and also stumble into chance encounters with more survivors, played by the likes of an armed-and-dangerous Nick Offerman, Storm Reid, Murray Bartlett, and more. The first trailer for The Boys’ college spinoff Gen V has arrived, and when it comes to the subversive superhero series’ requisite bloodlust, the new installment seems set to pass with flying colors. The clip opens with an introduction to Godolkin University, a self-described “safe space” for super-powered teenagers “to thrive.” The curriculum, however, appears to have a much more punitive approach to the classic pass-or-fail format with numerous shots revealing blood-soaked students, disemboweled security forces, and deadly clashes amongst classmates. At one point, Jaz Sinclair, as the show’s lead Marie Moreau, brushes off the unusual college trials, saying, “I’m superhuman, right? We’re made of steel.” Despite her heroic confidence, every moment surrounding the statement suggests otherwi...
