Kit Harington to Reprise Jon Snow in Game of Thrones Sequel Series

The legend of Jon Snow has yet to be fully told. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kit Harington has signed on to reprise the character in an upcoming Game of Thrones sequel series. It’s the first known Game of Thrones spin-off series that’ll take place after the events of the original series. In the case of Jon Snow’s character, he was last seen heading North of the Wall after killing Daenerys Targaryen. Needless to say, the news is surprising for a variety of reasons. For one, HBO programming president Casey Bloys previously ruled out a spin-off series featuring the original GoT stars. “Nope, nope, nope. No. Part of it is, I do want this show — this Game of Thrones, [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss]’s show — to be its own thing. I don’t want to take characters from this world that they d...

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Treats Elliot Page’s Transition With Respect: Review

The Pitch: The Umbrella Academy is not a subtle show. Characters outwardly express both what’s happening on screen and their feelings about it. The cinematography calls constant attention to itself with aerial shots and CGI camera maneuvers to glide us around stately mansions and old-fashioned hotels. In one episode of the show’s third season, “Cat’s in the Cradle” plays as an ironic musical accompaniment for a spoof on a father-and-son bonding montage. There are somehow needle drops more obvious than that. That The Umbrella Academy is a show that, in a way, serves as its own audio description, might be more of a liability were it not for its characters, both the core of ne’er-do-well estranged adopted Hargreeves super-siblings as well as the many beings they get to know. Watching this sho...

Nick Cave and Thastrom to Anchor Animated Series as Beer-Drinking 14-Year-Olds

Australian rock legend Nick Cave and Swedish punk icon Thåström are getting animated in Before They Were Gods, a TV series which follows the two artists as beer-drinking 14-year-olds. If this sounds like a fever dream, well, you’re not far off. Before They Were Gods comes from the cracked imagination of Swedish auteur Måns Mårlind (Shelter, Midnight Sun). “This is a dream project that literally came to me in a dream,” Mårlind said in a statement to THR. “While asleep, I watched two of my musical heroes as young teenagers, drinking cheap beer while discussing love and the meaning of life. I woke up writing and have been trying to catch up with them ever since.” Before They Were Gods is billed as a philosophical discourse between the “harsh existentialist” Thåström a...
