Wet Leg announce new album moisturizer, reveal song "catch these fists"

Wet Leg have officially returned with the announcement of their sophomore album: it’s called moisturizer and set for release on July 11th via Domino Records. They’ve also shared the album’s first new song, “catch these fists.”

moisturizer serves as the follow-up to Wet Leg’s lauded 2022 self-titled debut, and like its predecessor, is produced by Dan Carey. Now evolved beyond the two piece of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, moisturizer is the first Wet Leg release to include and credit touring members Ellis Durand (bass), Henry Holmes (drums), and Joshua Mobaraki (guitar, synths). The record takes inspiration from their experiences touring incessantly throughout 2022 and 2023, as well as horror movies, falling in love, and whatever would “be fun to play live.”

As for the more specific contents of moisturizer, the band has provided a list: “Active ingredients: kinship, Davina McCall, tourburn, ketamine, true love, every Alien film, Dan Carey, devotion, the Solent, CPR dolls, rapid success, Jennifer and Needy, obsession, guitars, lesbian sex, Suffolk, and cabin fever,” they say. “Apply liberally.”

They’ve offered the first preview of moisturizer today with “catch these fists.” Fans of Wet Leg’s first album are in for a treat, as “catch these fists” doesn’t alter much of their irony-laced post-punk formula. This time, however, they dial up the ferocity and add a bit of dance-punk to the mix, with Teasdale shutting out a belligerent man by declaring in the chorus “I know all too well just what you’re like/ I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight.”

The band has also shared the official music video for “catch these fists,” which a press release mentions is “a suitably off-kilter introduction into moisturizer valley.” Filmed on Teasdale and Chambers’ native Isle of Wight, the video follows the band parading around landscapes similar to the ones found in the visuals for “Wet Dream” and “Chaise Lounge.” Throughout, they drink milk and eat hot dogs while running, dance with boomboxes and beach balls, and do the cancan together. Watch the visual below.

Wet Leg have yet to announce a North American tour in support of the album, but they do have a large slate of festival appearances set to come in Europe this summer, including appearances at Primavera Sound, Glastonbury, Rock Werchter, Way Out West, and more. Before then, they’ll embark on a short run of UK dates; get tickets to their international shows here. Meanwhile, the band will debut “catch these fists” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, April 2nd, and will head out west to play an intimate Los Angeles concert on April 8th.
