The recently released Wicked: For Good made a stunning global debut, grossing an impressive $226 million USD at the box office. This performance positions it as the fourth-biggest worldwide debut of 2025, trailing only Disney‘s Lilo & Stitch remake, Jurassic World Rebirth, and A Minecraft Movie.
The cinematic adaptation of the second half of Wicked garnered $150 million USD in the US market and $76 million overseas. In addition, the movie officially shattered box-office records for a Broadway adaptation by surpassing its predecessor, Wicked, which grossed $164.2 million USD worldwide, $50.2 million USD internationally, and $112.5 million USD domestically.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, this sequel concludes the story of Elphaba, who starts the film demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who is branded as Glinda the Good and is enjoying her fame. The second half of “Wicked” features a notably darker plot compared to the first, as the Wicked Witch must face an angry mob. The central focus of their journey is the reunion of Elphaba and Glinda, as they work together to transform themselves and all of Oz for good.
