Another ‘Scream’ Sequel Is in the Works

Following the recent box office success of Scream, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media have announced that another Scream sequel is officially in the works.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will return to direct the next installment in the slasher franchise, while James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will co-write the script. While plot details remain under wraps, it is known that production is scheduled to begin this summer.

The latest Scream saw the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, David Arquette as Dewey Riley and Marley Shelton as Judy Hicks. The film also welcomed several new faces to the franchise, including Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Kyle Gallner, Jack Quaid and others.

“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film,” Spyglass and Paramount Pictures said in a statement.

The fifth installment in the Scream franchise has raked in more than $100 million USD at the worldwide box office since its release in January.

“They re-invigorated the franchise for pre-existing fans and introduced it to new generation of fans,” Chris Aronson, Paramount’s domestic distribution chief, said of the film’s premiere. “We’ve heard anecdotally that people have seen the film more than once or are planning to see it multiple times.”

Stay tuned for more information on the sixth Scream movie.

In other entertainment news, Spike Lee is directing a multi-part Colin Kaepernick documentary for ESPN.
