Netflix has officially debuted the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi survival thriller The Last House. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the high-concept cinematic project introduces a claustrophobic narrative that turns an ordinary suburban family home into a hostile environment, exploring the psychological limits of a household completely cut off from the outside world.
The film follows a family of four, led by parents Ann and Jason—portrayed by Greta Lee and Wagner Moura—who abruptly discover they are physically unable to leave their residence. With doors and windows functioning as impassable structural barriers, the family is forced into long-term survival mode as years pass, resources dwindle, and a mysterious, looming threat establishes itself right outside their perimeter. The teaser even showcases a dramatic time jump to day 1,183, when an unexpected stranger arrives looking for help amid a neighborhood increasingly overrun by wildlife and nature.
Written by Matthew Robinson, the thriller also costars Gabriel Barbosa, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Riley Chung. To establish a distinct aesthetic atmosphere, Leterrier drew creative inspiration from Steven Spielberg’s early Amblin productions. The director prioritized analog textures for the project, choosing to shoot the first half of the film on traditional 35mm film while heavily relying on practical effects to enhance the script’s psychological suspense and survival horror themes.
