BMW Celebrates M’s 50th Birthday With Rare Motorsport-Inspired Roundels

BMW is celebrating 50 years of its M division with a range of special treatments that can be applied to various M cars (and M Sport models) within the range. Commencing January 2022, BMW M GmbH will offer customers the choice to spec their car with a classic “BMW Motorsport” logo, decorating the front hood, rear, and wheel hubs.

The shifted semicircle logo harks back to 1973, and was frequently used on its racing cars. This design only ever appeared on motorsport cars, and once on the limited-production M1 from 1978, so it’s a truly special occasion that this can now be specced on cars such as the M3 and M4 — and the soon-coming BMW M3 Touring, which has just been announced.

In addition to the exclusive roundel, BMW will also offer rare colors from the history of M such as “Dakar Yellow,” “Fire Orange,” “Daytona Violet,” “Macao Blue,” “Imola Red” and “Frozen Marina Bay Blue,” of which all can be applied to M or M Sport cars.

Cars can be ordered from January 2022 if they are produced from March onwards, and the offer will run throughout the brand’s 50th-anniversary celebration.

In other news, Dodge has announced that its next generation of muscle cars will be electrified.
