The ongoing case between fintech firm Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) took another turn this week when the company was granted access to Binance’s documents. Nifty News: NFTs in space, defunct CryptoPunks, Ernst & Young gets in on the act

One small step for NFTs… Two companies teamed up to stream a recording of composer Claude Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” to, and from, the International Space Station on July 28, reportedly marking the first instance in which a nonfungible token (NFT) has orbited the Earth. The orbital NFT expedition is the product of a partnership between Artemis Music Entertainment and space services company Nanoracks LLC, with the two firms minting the track as a nonfungible token after the hard drive the file was stored on completed one orbit of the Earth over roughly 90 minutes. “The cosmic perspective of space inspires a cognitive shift in humans,” said Artemis Music co-founder Bob Richards, adding: “‘Clair de Lune’ perhaps comes as close as possible to stirring the emotions ...

Ethereum is becoming ultrasound money, ConsenSys founder says

ConsenSys founder and Ethereum (ETH) co-founder Joseph Lubin has implied that Ethereum is transitioning to “ultrasound money” status ahead of the London hard fork slated to activate around 12:30 pm UTC Aug. 5. During an interview with Bloomberg TV, Lubin was questioned on the imminent EIP-1559 upgrade, which will see Ethereum transition away from a bidding-based fee market to a fixed price and burn mechanism. Lubin stated that the London hard fork is part of a broader global movement in which the first step is the “democratization of the Earth,” and the second step is the democratization of the decentralized finance (DeFi) system and the introduction of ultrasound money: “The second step that’s in full play right now is the democratization of the global decentralized finance sys...

UK Artists Granted Visa-Free Touring in 19 EU Countries in Post-Brexit Agreements

The coronavirus pandemic and accompanying shutdown of the live music industry have masked many of the problems created by Brexit for the live-music sector. And fears have lingered about extra customs checks and performers and crews requiring visa and work permits for when European touring does resume. According to a survey conducted by the Musicians’ Union and Incorporated Society of Musicians in April and May, 77% of U.K. musicians expected their earnings in Europe to decrease when touring resumes due to additional Brexit-related red tape and touring costs. In January, over 100 acts, including Elton John, Ed Sheeran and Radiohead, signed an open letter to the British government saying it had “shamefully failed” them with the EU trade deal that was finalized on Dec. 24 by not s...

Three US Senators propose narrowing crypto tax language in infrastructure bill

Lawmakers have written an amendment to an infrastructure bill in the United States Senate which proposes excluding certain crypto companies from the reporting requirements for brokers. In an amendment from Oregon Senator Ron Wyden on behalf of himself and Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, with the support of Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey, the U.S. lawmakers suggested that some of the provisions in the bipartisan infrastructure deal shouldn’t apply to developers, miners, or blockchain firms in the crypto space. Specifically, the amendment proposes that the definition of a broker does not include anyone in the business of “validating distributed ledger transactions,” “developing digital assets or their corresponding protocols,” or dealing with mining software or hardware. “By clar...

This bullish Bitcoin options strategy targets $50K without risk of liquidation

Long-dated Bitcoin options and bulls still make waves with their ultra bullish bets, but even they must admit that the possibility of (BTC) trading above $60,000 in the next couple of months is dim.  Many traders have added leveraged-long positions via futures contracts to chase after the elusive all-time high, but this seems like an unrealistic outcome. According to Willy Woo, a popular on-chain analyst, exchange outflows and accumulation from BTC miners and whales suggest that Bitcoin price will reach the $50,000 to $65,000 range in the coming sessions. Even Gary Gensler, the Chair of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, believes that cryptocurrencies won’t go away and will likely play a big role in the future of finance. Therefore, being moderately bullish for the ...
