Price analysis 9/13: BTC, ETH, ADA, BNB, XRP, SOL, DOT, DOGE, LUNA, UNI

Bitcoin’s (BTC) failure to make a strong recovery in the past few days has resulted in profit-booking in most major altcoins, threatening to pull the total crypto market capitalization back below $2 trillion. The United States equity markets witnessed profit-booking and the S&P 500 dropped by 1.69% last week, suggesting the development of a risk-off sentiment. Charles Edwards, CEO of investment manager Capriole, pointed out that “almost every Bitcoin correction in 2021” has corresponded with a 2% or more drop in the S&P 500. Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and play-to-earn gaming are two of the hottest trends in the crypto sector because each presents new avenues for attracting users and the unique character of each niche allows participants to generate wealth rather than having to spend money to become a part of the community. Gala Games, a blockchain-gaming-focused project that allows users to use their unique NFT characters in gameplay, saw its GALA token etch out significant gains after Binance announced plans to list the GALA token. Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView shows that after hitting a low of $0.021 on Sept. 12, the price of GALA catapulted 270% to an intraday high at $0.077 on Sept. 13 as its 24-hour trading volume skyrocketed. SEC chair doubles down, tells crypto firms ‘come in and talk to us’

Gary Gensler, chair of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, is once again urging crypto projects with securities to register with the regulatory body to ensure thinvestors are protected. In a prepared statement for his testimony at the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs scheduled for Sept. 14, Gensler said the Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, was working with the Commodities Futures Trading Commission for investor protection in crypto markets. In addition, he hopes to develop a policy framework by working with the Federal Reserve, Department of Treasury, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and President Joe Biden’s Working Group on Financial Markets. “I’ve suggested that [crypto] platforms and projects come in and talk to us,” said th...

India’s Income Tax Department may soon target crypto trades and ecosystem

As the Income Tax Department of India reportedly considers taxing crypto traders and crypto exchanges soon, experts believe investors should rest assured. According to ET Now’s report, the tax department, which operates under India’s Ministry of Finance, has signaled interest to tax crypto earnings through trade and exchanges. However, the sources claim that the move will not entitle cryptocurrencies to a valid asset class position. Speaking to Cointelegraph, Indian entrepreneur Nischal Shetty, CEO of WazirX crypto exchange, said that getting clarity on crypto-related Goods and Services Tax (GST) will help in identifying the asset class of cryptocurrencies: “It’s a no-brainer that your crypto earnings are taxable like other income and should be declared in the Income Tax Returns. As of now...

El Salvador’s Bitcoin day: The first of many or a one-off?

On Sept. 7, in a historic first, the small Central American nation of El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender. The true significance of this day for how people all around the world exchange value and what meaning they ascribe to the concept of money will take quite some time to reify and be fully understood. Yet, what is already clear is that September 2021 will be up there next to January 2009 in the history books of the digitization of finance. Surrounded by controversy, protests, bumpy infrastructure rollout — how else? — but also joy and optimism of millions globally who look at this great experiment with hope, the Bitcoin Day marked the first instance of a sovereign state making a decentralized digital asset its national currency. Was it a success, after all? Politics in the backg...

‘We will have a really long, long memory’: Greens calling businesses’ bluff on climate change

Environmentalists and their supporters in Congress have a message for those companies: Pick a side. With much of the country still recovering from the death and wreckage of Hurricane Ida and after a summer of heat waves and wildfires across the globe, they are promising that businesses will face lasting repercussions to their reputations if they waffle on what could be their best opportunity to take on climate change. “It’s a really hard test for corporations: Was it all bullshit?” said Lori Lodes, executive director of Climate Power, a group whose leaders include veterans of Hillary Clinton’s and Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaigns. “There’s one train and you’re either getting on it or we will have a really long, long memory.” Activist groups have also warned privately that companie...
