Following his death earlier this month, musicians who were fortunate enough to meet Eddie Van Halen have been sharing their fondest memories. During an interview with BBC Radio 6, Billy Corgan reminisced about watching the Van Halen guitarist play in his studio circa 1997, calling it “a religious experience.” “Oh my God! For American guitar players, he was the supreme thing. Five Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin recently released his solo and to celebrate it, he’s done what everyone has during the pandemic: he performed in a livestream. Walking out to an orange haze and while letting out a guttural scream as to start and he ran through his entire Superbloom on Friday (Oct. 30), which ran for a little under an hour. The livestream was a concert experience that ran through the album from start to finish. It also featured a surprise cover of Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ about halfway through, a dance break and a few speeches. “If I can leave this world having helped people love themselves for who they truly are under [their] skin, then my job will be done,” he said. Tributes to Eddie Van Halen have been rolling in since his death earlier this month, and the latest comes from his Van Halen bandmate David Lee Roth. On Friday, the singer released a new song called “Somewhere Over the Rainbow Bar and Grill” and dedicated to the legendary guitarist. “Hey Ed I’m gonna miss ya,” reads text on the YouTube album art. “See you on the other side.” Listen to the track below. Jordan Peele to Produce Remake of Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs
It’s barely been a year since Jordan Peele’s last movie, Us, hit theaters and shattered box office expectations. Now, he’s landed on his next project: a remake of Wes Craven’s horror satire The People Under the Stairs. According to Collider, Peele has signed on to produce a new version of the 1991 movie for Universal. Win Rosenfield will join him in the production department via their Monkeypaw Productions house. There’s no word yet if Peele will take the reins as the director for the remake or help write the script, but fingers crossed. The original version of The People Under the Stairs followed a young boy and two adult thieves as they break into a house to steal a rare coin collection, but wind up getting trapped inside. Sean Connery, Legendary James Bond Actor, Dies at 90
Sean Connery, the legendary actor who is debatably the best known James Bond, has died at the age of 90. Connery’s son Jason told the BBC that he died peacefully in his sleep while in the Bahamas and had been “unwell for some time.” Born on Aug. 25, 1930 in Edinburgh, Connery featured as James Bond at the series’ onset, becoming the defining actor in the spy thriller. In addition to playing Bond, the actor was known for his role as Indiana Jones’ father in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Rock, The Hunt for Red October and for winning an Oscar in 1988 for Best-Supporting Actor in The Untouchables.
