Nine Can’t-Miss Moments From the 2020 ACM Awards

On Wednesday night (Sept. 16), the Academy of Country Music finally got to hold its long-delayed awards ceremony. Postponed from the original April 5 date after the pandemic sent everyone into lockdown, the 2020 edition of the ACM Awards moved to Nashville for the first time, adjusted to social distancing and no audience and still managed to pull of a show that had plenty of striking moments—including a tie for the coveted entertainer of the year. There were none of the usual cutaways to the audience or shots of Taylor Swift singing along to every song with gusto. Instead, a raft of top names performed from three iconic Nashville venues: the Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium, and the Bluebird Cafe, while Keith Urban hosted live from the Grand Ole Opry. Jim Carrey Cast as Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live

Jim Carrey will portray Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the upcoming 46th season of Saturday Night Live. The casting was revealed by longtime SNL boss Lorne Michaels in an interview with Vulture. Michaels also confirmed that Alec Baldwin and Maya Rudolph will be back as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, respectively. Rudolph is up for an Emmy this year for her portrayal of the now-Democratic vice presidential nominee during the show’s 45th season. Baldwin won one for playing Trump in 2017. In addition, a “Definitive Edition” vinyl reissue of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ Oscar-winning score for The Social Network has also been released. The brooding soundtrack for Quake showcased Reznor’s early interest in dark soundscapes and ambient music. He would explore these musical ideas further on future Nine Inch Nails albums, but Quake stands as an early foray into the world of instrumental soundtracks. Last month, beloved singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle was taken from the world suddenly when he passed away at the young age of 38. The news was shocking and unexpected, causing a wave of grief to settle over the Americana music community. Now that a few weeks have passed, his father, Steve Earle, has announced he will honor his son’s life by recording a covers album of Justin Townes Earle originals. Bonnaroo Announces Lineup for Upcoming Digital Edition, “Virtual ROO-ALITY”

After Bonnaroo organizers shelved the 2020 in-person event due to the impact of COVID-19, organizers have now announced the lineup for the event’s first-ever foray into the virtual music festival space, “Virtual ROO-ALITY.” The livestream event, which is free for viewers to broadcast via YouTube, will feature both archival sets from Bonnaroo’s storied past as well as new performances. The first (and hopefully last) “Virtual ROO-ALITY” event will span three days starting at 5:30PM ET (2:30PM PT) on Thursday, September 24th.
