Earlier this year, the duo collaborated on three tracks—”Just Hold On,” “Illuminate,” and “Air I Breathe”—igniting the world of drum & bass and showcasing the producers’ diverse range of sounds.  In September, it was revealed that those three singles were part of something greater after the announcement of Portals, the new album from Sub Focus and Wilkinson. Just under a month later, Portals has arrived, and fans are elated. The album explores new facets of both Sub Focus and Wilkinson via live instrumentation and experimentation with tempo, but remains unmistakably true to each a...

David Bowie, photo by Michael J. Weller On November 6th, Parlophone Records will mark the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s The Man Who Sold the World by reissuing the album under its original title and with its original artwork. Bowie originally sought to call his third studio album Metrobolist, a homage to Fritz Lang’s 1927 film of the same name. However, for its US release, Mercury Records retitled the album as The Man Who Sold the World without Bowie’s consultation. The forthcoming reissue will be released under the name of Metrobolist and with artwork from Mike Weller, the artist who created the album’s original animated artwork. Lykke Li Shares Heartbreaking New Song “BRON”: Stream

Swedish dream pop artist Lykke Li has released a new single in her native language. “BRON”, which translates to “BRIDGE” in English, marks Li’s first original offering since her 2018 album so sad so sexy. Li wrote the track in collaboration with Ludwig Göransson, a Swedish producer and music composer known for his Oscar-winning work on Black Panther and Emmy-worthy score for The Mandalorian. As to be expected from such a pairing of talents, “BRON” has a heartbreaking and cinematic ambiance to it. “On a bridge/ With heart in hand again/ It is now or never/ I died/ With heart in hand again/ Let me go/ But never let me go,” a torn and conflicted Li sings in the opening verse. The chorus finds her a bit more resolute about her feelings, though: “Because I’m crushed/ But I will not cry mor...

Big Boi and Sleepy Brown Call on Killer Mike for Remix of “We the Ones”: Stream

Three years ago, Big Boi and frequent collaborator Sleepy Brown released the track “We the Ones” on the self-titled EP from Organized Noize. Featuring CeeLo Green and Big Rube, the song served as an uplifting rally to “stand up to oppression.” Three years later, the theme is more relevant than ever, so Big Boi and Sleepy have called on Killer Mike for a new remix of “We the Ones”. Much of the original cut remains intact, including CeeLo’s hook and the spoken word sections from Big Rube. Killer Mike comes in for the third verse, telling stories of individuals taking different paths towards betterment, especially when it comes to religion. He talks about “a cousin named Robert”, a “robber” who found “conviction through religion” while serving time: “Reformed, Robert told me, ‘We should only ...

The Flaming Lips Are Planning a Concert Where the Crowd Is in Space Bubbles

The Flaming Lips’ live shows have long been synonymous with space bubbles, but the coronavirus has forced them to take things to the next level. Instead of just frontman Wayne Coyne rolling around in a giant, inflatable hamster ball, they’ve lately been putting a bubble around every member of the band — and the audience. They did it on Fallon, they did it on Colbert, and now they’re trying to do it in an actual music venue. As Coyne explained the Brooklyn Vegan, a concept that began as a funny bit of merch has grown into a very real possibility. “We’re starting to get ready to do an actual show where yeah, there’s three people in each of these space bubbles, and we play,” said the frontman. “We think maybe playing two shows a night, and getting a big audience in there each time.” The plan ...

Maynard James Keenan Had COVID-19

As COVID-19 numbers continue to grow, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that some pretty well-known public figures likely had contracted the virus. You can add Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan to that unfortunate list. In an interview with AZ Central, Keenan told the paper that he had contracted COVID-19 in February and that the virus was just as bad as you’d expect. “It was ugly,” the singer admitted, “I survived it, but it wasn’t pretty.” Even though time has passed, Keenan said that he continues to deal with the side effects of the virus, including constant coughing. “I still have the cough. Every other day, I have these coughing fits because my lungs are still damaged at the tips. And I just got over the inflammation that was going o...

Todd Rundgren and Rivers Cuomo Join Forces on Ska Song ‘Down With The Ship’

Todd Rundgren has teamed up with Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo for a new single, “Down With The Ship.” The duo shared writing and vocal roles on the track, which draws inspiration from reggae and African rhythms. Rundgren, in a statement, describes the song as “just a little parable about what happens when you align yourself with a treacherous leader.” Check out the collab below. [embedded content] The tune is the second installment from Rundgren’s forthcoming album Space Force, which is being released to digital platforms as individual singles, each with its own unique artwork, every three or four weeks. The entire album is slated for an early 2021 release. Last year, Rundgren performed a cover of the Weezer hit “Hash Pipe,” which you can hear here. You Deserve to Make Money Even When...
