Keith Urban’s life is so busy, his albums drop in stages. Just 24 hours after hosting the ACM Awards, the Australian country star drops Part 1 of The Speed of Now, his 10th studio album. The new LP spans 16 tracks and includes collaborations with Eric Church, Nile Rodgers, Breland and his previously released single with Pink, “One Too Many,” which the pair performed Thursday night at the ACM Awards. “When I collaborate, I’m always looking for that ‘third thing,’” Urban said ahead of release. “There’s what I do, there’s what my collaborator does and then there’s this ‘third thing’ that I’m most curious about. That’s what interests me the most – when the sum of the parts becomes even more than what I envisioned. That’s what I love so much about it – finding common ground, shaping...

In a new interview with Newsradio WOOD 1300 and 106.9 FM, outspoken conservative rocker Ted Nugent was asked to name the biggest issues facing voters in this year’s presidential election. He responded (hear audio below): “I’ll be 72 here in a couple of months, but I’m cocked, locked and ready to rock, doc. I so love this country. I so demand freedom. I so understand the vision of the founding fathers. And what the Nugent family pursues in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, it’s ubiquitous. It’s not universal, because you’ve got your terrorists. You’ve got your ‘Black Lives Matter’ that don’t care about black lives. Everybody I know actually does care about everybody. We don’t look at anything as colored — colo...
DEFTONES have released the official Sebastian Kökow-directed music video for their new song “Genesis”. The track is the second single from the band’s upcoming ninth album, “Ohms”, which will arrive on September 25 via Warner. Speculation of the forthcoming album among fans swept across the media landscape, stoking curiosity as the band’s web site and social platforms went dark. The intrigue continued to rise when they revealed the striking album art on their site with no additional information. Designed by longtime collaborator Frank Maddocks (who also designed the iconic “White Pony” LP cover), the captivating album image of two eyes made up of thousands of white pixels cryptically appeared on a billboard in the cultural hot-spot of Los Ange...

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS will release their new double album, “Cyr”, on November 27 via Sumerian Records. The 20-song follow-up to 2018’s “Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.” was produced by singer-songwriter Billy Corgan and includes the previously released singles “Cyr” and “The Colour of Love”. “‘Cyr’ is dystopic folly,” Corgan said in a statement, “one soul against the world sort of stuff, set against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and sped up time. To me it stands as both hopeful and dismissive of what is and isn’t possible with faith.” THE SMASHING PUMPKINS have also announced “In Ashes”, a five-part animated series written by Corgan, featuring new ...
A previously unreleased Thelonious Monk live recording from October 1968 is finally seeing light today through Impulse! Records and Legacy Recordings. The album captures Monk and his all-star quartet — Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), Larry Gales (bass), and Ben Riley (drums) — performing a concert at a local high school in Palo Alto, California. According to a press release, the concert was organized by 16-year-old student named Danny Scher, and was recorded by the school’s janitor. The tape was stowed away in Scher’s attic for years and was only recently rediscovered. T.S. Monk, the son of Thelonious and founder of the Thelonious Monk Institute, called the performance “one of the best live recordings I’ve ever heard by Thelonious.” He added, “I wasn’t even aware of my dad playing a high school...
Neil Young has released his new live acoustic EP The Times. To ensure the best audio experience possible (as Young is wont to do), it’s only available to stream on the Neil Young Archives website or Amazon Music HD. Sign up for AMHD here or listen via the embedded player below. The seven-track collection captures the “Porch Episode” of Young’s Fireside Sessions series from back in July. That performance introduced fans to the updated version of “Lookin’ for a Leader 2020”, which reworks the lyrics to specifically target Trump and the current US political climate in 2020. The EP takes its name from another featured track: a cover of Bob Dylan’s classic “The Times They Are A-Changin’”. The Times is rounded out by five cuts from various stages in Young’s catalog, all of which are particularly...
