The Smashing Pumpkins Share Five Mysterious Countdowns

The Smashing Pumpkins are up to something. On Friday afternoon, the Chicago rockers surreptitiously began five separate countdowns on both their official site and the band’s socials. “Follow the countdown…” is all that was said. Not surprisingly, diehard fans over on the band’s sub-Reddit have already done the math on each of the five countdowns. They each lead to midnight EST on the following dates: Friday, August 28th; Friday, September 18th; Friday, October 9th; Thursday, October 30th; and Friday, Nov 20th. So, what does it all mean? Well, anything goes in the world of Billy Corgan, but odds are it has something to do with the double album he teased way, way back in February. You know, back when the world was somewhat normal. At the time, Corgan told the Tennessean that band was pl...

Smashing Pumpkins Tease Activity With Countdown Clock

Talk about a Friday surprise. Smashing Pumpkins dropped a subtle teaser on their social media this afternoon, with five different countdowns going on simultaneously. The soundless clip sees the Pumpkins logo change color a few times See it here on their website. Fan responded to the activity on Twitter and had multiple guesses to what could be happening, including a Machina box set or perhaps more likely, new music. Could this be the release of a new single, the rollout several singles, an album or reissues? Check back in a few weeks to find out what their plan is. But, it should be noted that Billy Corgan spoke of a Pumpkins album as recently as January, saying it was “pretty different” from what the band did, for what it’s worth. This year was supposed to be a fairly active one...

How Evanescence’s Amy Lee Became A Voice For The Unheard

By Erica Russell When Evanescence first broke out in 2003, no one really knew what to make of them. Despite rising on the Billboard Hot 100 and Top 40 charts and scoring five Grammy nominations (including two wins), Evanescence were imperfect outsiders who crashed into the mainstream when popular music just so happened to be at its most polished. The sound of their debut album, Fallen — a distinctive synthesis of sweeping orchestral drama; dark, gothic nu-metal; and big, pop-friendly hooks — was subversive and unexpected. And lead singer Amy Lee, with her commanding, celestial voice and faerie-goth aesthetic (complete with corsets and striped arm warmers) was like no other pop star at the time. With their dynamic breakout “Bring Me to Life,” rage-fueled rock banger “Going Under,” and sombe...

Wonho’s Tearful Return, Orville Peck And Shania Twain’s Legendary Collab, And More Songs We Love

“Vibe” is a catch-all we tend to use when describing sounds, sights, and aesthetics that just feel good, but calling Nilo Blues’s new video for “Nicotiana” anything else would not be fair. The Vietnamese-Chinese hip-hop artist hails from Canada, and his smooth, genre-blending stylings make for a hazy, dreamy listening experience. It’s fitting then that his new single, from his self-titled debut EP out now, romanticizes what he calls his “toxic love story with nicotine” with a tinge of nostalgia. Its moody visual features no shortage of cloudy skies, solo drives, and yes, vibes. —Carson Mlnarik You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. IRON MAIDEN’s ADRIAN SMITH Discusses His Upcoming Fishing Memoir ‘Monsters Of River & Rock’ In New Video

A three-and-a-half-minute video in which Adrian Smith, the legendary lead guitarist of IRON MAIDEN, discusses his upcoming memoir, “Monsters Of River & Rock”, can be seen below. Smith is well known in the community as a fisherman, and a former cover star of coarse-fishing bible the Angler’s Mail (biggest chub of the season, August 2009). In his first, very personal, riverside memoir, “Monsters Of River & Rock”, Smith takes us with him on his incredible journey, through the highs and lows of life on tour, and on the river-bank, as his fishing gear travels with him across the world. Adrian got hooked on fishing as a child growing up in East London, plundering ponds and bomb craters on the Hackney Marshes for newts and sticklebacks and catching perch from...

COREY TAYLOR Says He Will Know When It’s Time To Call It Quits With SLIPKNOT

During an appearance this past Wednesday (August 12) on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation Virtual Invasion”, Corey Taylor was asked when he will know that it’s time for him to walk away from SLIPKNOT due to the physical cost of performing with the band for so many years. He responded: “That’s a good question. The honest answer is I don’t know. And honestly, it’s because I really try to keep myself healthy, I try to keep myself clean. “I’m still as into extreme music as I’ve always been,” he continued. “That’s just a side of me that I’ve always been into. It’ never hard enough; it’s never crazy enough. And sometimes the band has to calm me down when it comes to the stuff that I write. [Laughs] ̶...

TOOL’s ‘Fear Inoculum’ Certified Gold In U.S.

“Fear Inoculum”, the latest studio album from TOOL, was officially certified gold on August 12 by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for sales in excess of half a million copies. The RIAA developed its gold and platinum awards program in 1958 to honor artists and create a standard by which to measure the commercial success of a sound recording. The program trademarked the gold record and formalized the industry practice of presenting awards to artists for music sales achievements. Presently, the RIAA awards a gold honor for 500,000 units sold, a platinum honor for 1 million units sold and a diamond award for more than 10 million units sold. In the streaming age, each permanent digital album or physical album sale count as 1 unit for certification purposes, 10 ...

MÖTLEY CRÜE’s NIKKI SIXX Says He Is The Most Underrated Bass Player Ever

Nikki Sixx says that he doesn’t get the credit that he deserves as a bass player. The MÖTLEY CRÜE rocker addressed his standing on the list of low-end masters who seem to fall through the cracks of too many bass conversations while answering questions on Twitter. Asked by one follower to name “the most underrated bass player ever,” Sixx replied simply: “Me”. In a 2015 interview with For Bass Players Only, Sixx said that he was “drawn to the simplicity” of a bass guitar as a songwriter. “I love basically writing in the simplest form, and then I figure out what that means — ‘Is this a ballad? Is this a pop song? Is this a heavy metal song?'” he explained. “A lot of time some of our songs, our heavier songs, I’ll play the...

Bully Conquer ‘Paranoia,’ Challenge Societal Norms on SUGAREGG

Alicia Bognanno used to experience a persistent anxiety about her work: needing to be at the center of the entire music creation process. The Nashville indie-rocker’s Bipolar 2 disorder enlarged those fears tenfold. “With [Bully’s 2017 LP, Losing], I kind of had it stuck in my head that I was more concerned about how the record was going to be received and a little bit more concerned about what other people want to hear and what they think is ‘cool,’” she tells SPIN. “I also felt in the past that I had a responsibility to produce my own records because I had something to prove, like I needed to prove I could do it. And if I wasn’t tracking them myself then I wasn’t showing people that I was capable.” Bognanno escaped that thinking by finding a suitable treatment for her disorder. Insp...

Nickelback Follow Korn By Covering Charlie Daniels’ ‘Devil Went Down to Georgia’

The passing of country icon Charlie Daniels on July 6 has now inspired aural tributes from a pair of seemingly unlikely sources: ’90s nü-metal progenitors Korn and Canadian hitmakers Nickelback. Both lineups took on the classic 1979 hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” in their own signature styles. Korn, who previously covered artists ranging from Cameo (“Word Up”) to Cheech & Chong (“Earache My Eye”), teamed up with Southern rapper Yelawolf, for their version of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which dropped July 28. Nickelback’s version of the classic country epic offers up metallic guitars and speedy shredding in place of the classic fiddle, while their accompanying cartoon video shows a red devil rocking out on a double-neck guitar. Singer Chad Kroeger even drops in an F-bomb int...

White House Reporter Finally Asks Donald Trump Does He Regret Lying To The American People

Source: BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI / Getty For nearly four years, we have watched in horror as Donald Trump, and his cronies stepped up to the people’s podium in the White House briefing room and spewed lies. One reporter has had enough and finally asked Trump the question his fellow colleagues should have been asked him. Huffington Post journalist, Shirish (S.V.) Dáte risked it all yesterday during Donald Trump’s rally events disguised as “coronavirus briefings” and asked Trump the one question honestly we have all wanted to ask the orange menace. When Date got called on by the so-called president to present his question, he asked: “Mr. President, after three-and-a-half years, do you regret at all, all the lying you’ve done to the American people? On everything?” You can literally see the questio...

Cardi B Claps Back At Carole Baskin: “You Killed Your Goddamn Husband”

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz The response to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” has been sort of a mixed bag with some people praising the collaboration and others, well, not so much. But we bet no one saw Tiger King “villain” Carole Baskin hoping on the “WAP” slander bandwagon and not for sexualizing women or anything like that, but for using tigers in her video. Unfortunately for the Tiger King co-star, Cardi B had a little time and not only put her in her place, but reminded everyone of her alleged crime. The Huffpost is reporting that Cardi responded to Baskin telling Entertainment Weekly that she felt Cardi and Megan used tigers that were likely abused in order to be tamed for their visuals to “WAP” and worried that would just lead to more animal cruelty for future vis...
