Bob Dylan’s legal team is seeking “monetary sanctions” against the lawyers who filed a lawsuit that alleged Dylan sexually abused a 12-year-old girl in 1965, Billboard reports and Pitchfork can confirm. Dylan’s lead attorney Orin Snyder wrote in a letter to a federal judge that the attorneys, Daniel W. Isaacs and Peter J. Gleason, “should not have brought this action—accusing [Bob Dylan] of a heinous crime—if they did not intend to responsibly litigate it.” The lawsuit was filed last year by a woman identified as J.C. She alleged that Dylan abused her in his room at the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan when he was 23 or 24 years old. After the suit was filed, a spokesperson for Dylan called J.C.’s claims “untrue.” The lawsuit was dropped earlier this summer. Shortly before the lawsuit was droppe...
Michelle Branch says that she has separated from the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney, according to TMZ and People. The “Everywhere” singer-songwriter married the rock drummer in April 2019. The couple has two children, one of whom is six months old. Pitchfork has contacted representatives for Branch and Carney for comment. In a comment shared with both People and TMZ, Branch said, “To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.” Carney’s most recent project with the Black Keys was May’s Dropout Boogie. He and Branch collaborated on a song for Bojack Horseman in 2017. You don’t need to be a Friends expert to notice that the long-running sitcom is extremely white — so much so that co-creator Marta Kauffman donated millions to her alma mater Brandeis University’s African-American studies department. Money can’t change the past, but in a new interview with The Daily Beast, Lisa Kudrow opined that the show’s writers had “no business” writing about “being a person of color” in the show. “[Friends] was a show created by two people who went to Brandeis and wrote about their lives after college,” the real-life Phoebe Buffay said. “And for shows especially, when it’s going to be a comedy that’s character-driven, you write what you know. They have no business writing stories about the experiences of being a person of color. I think at that time, the big prob...

A lawsuit claiming that Bob Dylan repeatedly sexually assaulted an unnamed 12-year-old girl in 1965 was dropped last month, and now attorneys for the singer are calling for “monetary sanctions” against the legal team that filed it (via Billboard). The suit was dated one day before the window closed on New York’s Child Protective Act, which opened the statute of limitations and allowed survivors of decades-old abuses to seek justice. Dylan scholars immediately called into question the filing’s timeline, which did not match the public record of his movements. Then, during the discovery process in July of this year, the woman failed to turn over text messages and emails, with Dylan’s attorneys saying her actions “strongly suggests Plaintiff has destroyed evidence directly relevant to the...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: press handout / Sadé Clacken Joseph When filmmaker Sadé Clacken Joseph was coming of age in the Bronx as a first-generation American in a Caribbean immigrant household, she never would have guessed that her no-nonsense mother would eventually become her biggest cheerleader. Especially while she makes her way in the world as a creative. And “creative” in her space is more than an overused buzzword in the days of underaged (and too often “overaged”) TikTokers branding themselves as such. So let’s be clear. Joseph is a photographer, cinematographer, editor, director, producer, filmmaker, singer and songwriter. You may have heard her name before now as she was specially chosen by Issa Rae herself to direct the first two episodes of Rae’s new HBO series, Rap S...

Guadagnino recently spoke to Deadline about the film’s deeper meaning, stating, “There is something about the disenfranchised about people living on the margins of society that I am dra...
