While becoming the youngest ever solo headliner at Glastonbury Festival on June 24th, Billie Eilish used her platform — as she has done many times before — to speak up about abortion rights in the wake of the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Prior to performing “Your Power,” Eilish told the crowd that the song is “about the concept of power and how we always need to remember not to abuse it.” “Today is a really really dark day for women in the US,” she added. “And I’m just going to say that because I can’t bear to think about it anymore in this moment.” Advertisement Related Video Eilish has weighed in on abortion rights several times in the past. During a June gig in Manchester, the pop star debuted a new song called “TV,” in which she sings, “The internet’s gone wild ...
George R. R. Martin has confirmed in a new blog post that the reports of the Game of Thrones sequel series focusing on Jon Snow is very much true, and that actor Kit Harington was the one who pitched the idea. The author revealed that the show’s current working title is Snow and that it has been in development almost as long as the other spinoffs, namely Ten Thousand Ships, Sea Snake/Nine Voyages and The Hedge Knight/Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Martin also reaffirmed actress Emilia Clarke’s recent comments about Harrington’s involvement in the spinoff, “Yes, it was Kit [Harington] who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet… but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific.” Harington ...
Earlier on Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the long-standing case that protected a pregnant woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. Many, many artists chimed with their opinion on the ruling, with almost all being against the ruling. Cyndi Lauper has taken things a step further. In 1993, Lauper released “Sally’s Pigeons,” a song inspired by a real-life incident where the pop singer’s friend got a back-alley abortion after becoming pregnant and died due to the attempted procedure. Last month, after the Court’s ruling was leaked to Politico, Lauper headed back into the studio to record an acoustic version of “Sally’s Pigeons.” Here’s what Cyndi Lauper had to say about the new version: [embedded content][embedded content] “The Supreme Court’s radical decision ...
In the midst of announcing a massive tour and headlining Red Rocks performance, Bear Grillz has finally unveiled his highly anticipated album, Prismata. Out via his own Rude Service imprint, the brilliant two-sided LP is an illuminating glimpse into the duality of mental health, exploring the highs and lows experienced by those coping with anxiety. While one moment someone may be thriving in their recovery, the next they very well could be back to square one. This morning, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending nearly 50 years of the constitutional right to abortion. In an opinion reflecting the 5-4 majority—a draft of which had been leaked last month—Associate Justice Samuel Alito declared that Roe “was egregiously wrong from the start” and had “enflamed debate and deepened division.” Nearly half of states are expected to issue all but total bans on abortion, and 13 states already had “trigger bans” in place to outlaw abortion as soon as Roe was overturned. The court’s decision will make it severely harder for people to get access to reproductive care, forcing them to travel hundreds of miles to access a clinic. Those who are already struggling—namely, low-income people and people of color—will be the hardest hit. Pro-choice lawmaker...
