Deadbeat Daddy Hater Herschel Walker Reportedly Has Secret Kids Of His Own

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Megan Varner / Getty Herschel Walker is in the midst of a tense race for a U.S. Senate seat against incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock, but the former NFL running back is avoiding a media blitz. After reports came forward that the senatorial candidate had a young son largely unknown to the public, it was revealed and confirmed that Walker actually has four children in total. The Daily Beast ran a report earlier this week that Walker fathered a boy out of wedlock who is currently 10 years old. On Wednesday (June 15), Walker confined that he has another son with a different woman and a daughter that he fathered while in college. The news comes as Walker has repeatedly called out Black fathers for being absent in the home, blaming the instances for problem...

Send Perfume Genius the Salvador Dalí Cookbook, Immediately

Book Club is a monthly series from Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis, exploring the literature that inspires some of our favorite musicians. Whether it’s a music biography that got them through the slog of tour, the poetry collection that eked into their most poignant lyrics, or the novel that sparked a rock opera, we’ll get to the bottom of it so you can add it to the top of your book stack. This month, we speak to Mike Hadreas, a.k.a. Perfume Genius. Perfume Genius’ Mike Hadreas studied to be a painter, and he brings that honed sense of aesthetic balance to his songwriting, too. “When I’m writing lyrics for my songs, I like to see them written out,” he says. “And I think about that when I’m reading poems—how the words look together.” Poetry played a major role in Hadreas’ first two records, 20...

Whitney Gets Groovy on ‘Real Love,’ Announces New Album

Whitney returns with a groovy, synth-tinged sound on its new song “Real Love,” the first single from its forthcoming Secretly Canadian album Spark (due September 16). An accompanying video for the track, directed by Aaron Brown, is also a departure for Whitney, with its psychedelic imagery and disco ball shimmer adding to the vibes. [embedded content][embedded content] Whitney, now a duo comprised of Julien Ehlrich and Max Kakacek, recorded Spark with producers Brad Cook and John Congleton. Work began on the project when both musicians found themselves in Portland at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We had time to just sit and watch the body of work grow in real time,” Ehlrich says. “We were just stacking stronger and stronger songs on top of each other.” Adds Kakacek, “[This is] o...

Odd Jobs: Four Year Strong’s Alan Day May Be the Youngest Christmas Tree Farmer in Massachusetts

For some people, being the frontman of a pop-punk band for 20-plus years would be a full-time job and then some. But for Alan Day of Four Year Strong, that still leaves him enough space to follow his other real passion: Christmas. But while others might just deck out their house with lights or visit every mall Santa, Day turned his passion into a business. He and his wife bought a farm in his native Massachusetts with the specific goal of selling Christmas trees (and other farm things too), and the singer/guitarist suddenly found himself living a very different lifestyle when he wasn’t on the road with Four Year Strong. Now, the annual Four Year Strong Christmas show (which happens after the holiday itself) marks the end of one busy season for Day just before he goes back to his main job. ...

New David Bowie ‘Starman’ Mix Released for Ziggy‘s 50th Birthday

To commemorate today’s 50th birthday of David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Parlophone is releasing a new edition of the track “Starman” as performed by the artist in 1972 on the U.K. TV show Top of the Pops. [embedded content][embedded content] This performance is one of the most iconic of Bowie’s career, and has circulated online in varying quality for decades. The original broadcast audio was first released on a 2012 7″ vinyl single. “Starman (Top of the Pops Version 2022 Mix)” is unique in that it features a different backing track than the one utilized on Ziggy Stardust, a development mandated by Musician Union rules at the time. Bowie then sang live over the new backing track during the performance, but the 2022 mix by Ken Scott replaces that ...

Bloom Vol 20: Dating Me

Nails on a chalkboard. A semi-truck skidding to a halt on the interstate as its back jack-knifes, sending sparks cascading across rows of cars like the Fourth of July. A never-ending vacuum on a Saturday morning outside of your apartment door. What do these three things have in common? They are all analogous to how I used to treat me when I was alone. Emotional intelligence ultimately falls to us: our ability to regulate our emotions, and perceive our emotions. I had never lived on my own until last year. Be it parents, roommates, or a significant other, I had always had someone around. As a socialite and a former serial monogamous, my adult years have teemed with staggering levels of distraction. Equating external human interactions and connections to distractions might sound harsh. What ...

Flying Lotus Releases New Songs “The Room” and “You Don’t Know”: Stream

Flying Lotus is back with “The Room” and “You Don’t Know,” two new songs that feature vocals from soul singer Devin Tracy. Listen to the tracks below. Flying Lotus met Devin Tracy during a studio session, but their collaborative singles suggest they forged an easy rapport. Tracy offers soulful vocal runs in “The Room,” mourning a fractured relationship over swirling guitar and acrobatic bass. “Why do I fall in love so easily?/ You made me soft, I’m down to my knees,” he sighs. These relationship troubles flow into “The Room”‘s B-side. “You Don’t Know” really means “You don’t know how it feels,” as Tracy insists that his lover is oblivious to his pain. A compressed beat skitters in the track while soaring horns and light keys make his sadness sound beautiful. Advertisement Related Video “Th...

As Baltimore’s Finest DIY Punk Band, Ravagers Get in the Van

When you’re doing a DIY tour, sometimes you’re SOL. Such is the case for Ravagers singer Alex Hagen, pumping gas into a rented box truck, while other band members are somewhere up on the road up ahead. The band’s 2003 Ford Econoline wagon didn’t enjoy the sandstorm between Tempe, Arizona and Austin, and it protested with a cracked head gasket. It’s not exactly what they wanted on the tour supporting their badass Badlands LP on Brooklyn label Spaghetty Town Records — a debut album the band self-describes as “an auditory onslaught of filth and fun, of catchiness and catastrophe.” Stepped in the coolness of the distant punk rock past (Iggy Pop, the Dead Boys) and the more recent past (Turbonegro), but charging into the future with tightly crafted songs, Ravagers even made a concession this to...
