Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows: Why the Future of Music Is Web3 (Guest Column)

Over the past year, I’ve had dozens of conversations with bands, managers and labels looking to get into NFTs. Many, I feel, are missing the point when it comes to the possibilities of Web3.  Beneath the flashy ape jpegs, FOMO and hype is a tool that, if used correctly, facilitates a new form of engagement and transparency for artists and communities alike. In fact, we now find ourselves at the crossroads of an old business model and a burgeoning technological breakthrough. Building the future is exciting, no doubt, but will bring a battle for power between the old guard and the musicians, artists, and creators shaping the Web3 music industry. The new world will bring artists and their communities closer than ever while providing true ownership over assets and relationships that music...

The Story Behind Erika Vidrio’s New Corrido ‘La Niña de la Montaña’

While waiting for a flight at an airport earlier this year, Erika Vidrio went to a bookstore to kill time. While window-shopping, the regional Mexican singer-songwriter spotted a book that caught her attention: Los Sueños de La Niña de la Montaña. “I started reading the description and it described this woman named Eufrosina Cruz as ‘the Zapotec activist who changed the Mexican constitution.’ I was like, wow I’ve never heard of her,” Vidrio remembers. So she bought the book, read almost all of it during her flight and finished it when she got home. Right after, she picked up her guitar and started writing Cruz her very own corrido. “I was inspired by Eufrosina’s story. I finished writing the corrido in 40 minutes,” she says. Rina Sawayama’s Invitation to Eternal Damnation Is One We Cannot Refuse

Any wedding DJ in their right mind knows you can’t just start out the night with “Call Me By Your Name.” Jesus. That’s one you’ve got to build up to. And that’s why Rina Sawayama had to create “This Hell.” It’s the perfect amuse-bouche to Lil Nas X’s Temple of Raunch because it’s a love jam with the same warning label: If I’m not enough for God, I’ll happily ride with the Devil. Or as Sawayama puts it: “God hates us? Alright then!” “Saw a poster on the corner opposite the motel, turns out I’m going to hell If I keep on being myself,” Sawayama sings in the first verse. “Don’t know what I did, but they seem pretty mad about it.” With that out of the way, Sawayama spends the rest of the song in celebration mode. Even most Windows users would be surprised that Microsoft’s once-dominant Internet Explorer was still operational until today, but now the web browser has officially been shut down. Now out of support, Internet Explorer 11 has been pushed out in favor of Microsoft Edge after nearly 27 years in existence. Microsoft first announced IE would be retired in May 2021, revealing June 15th, 2022 to be its expiration date. “Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications,” the company wrote in a blog post.
