The Recording Academy on Wednesday unveiled five new Grammy Awards categories that will be introduced at the 2023 iteration of the annual event. Among them are Songwriter of the Year, Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media, Best Spoken Word Album, Best Alternative Music Performance and Best Americana Performance. Microsoft officially has our backs for when the impending apocalypse wipes out our music libraries. The tech giant has partnered up with Oslo-based Elire Group for the latter’s Global Music Vault initiative, using pieces of glass to preserve the world’s most important music recordings. Together, Microsoft and Elire Group have created what they call a Proof of Concept (PoC) glass platter, which will store a sample selection of music files. The PoC platter is about the size of a coaster, and can hold 100 gigabytes of data in any digital format, encrypted or unencrypted. A laser encodes data in the platters by creating layers of microscopic engravings, which artificial intelligence algorithms can then read back by decoding those images and patterns. After bringing back He-Man and Skeletor for Masters of the Universe: Revelation last year, Netflix has now announced during its Geeked Week celebrations that a sequel series is on its way. Titled Masters of the Universe: Revolution, the upcoming miniseries will feature 10 episodes and pick up directly from where Revelation ended, most likely addressing the massive cliff-hanger at the end of that season. A notebook used to keep notes and observations during the Johnny Depp v Amber Heard defamation trial has just been sold for $14,969 USD on eBay with 142 bids. This “Secret” notebook was kept by Larry Foreman where he traveled from Kentucky to Virginia and sat in on dates May 17, and from May 23 to May 26. Each trial day saw roughly 20 pages of info added in by Foreman and contains details that have “never been seen by the world” and “roughly 100+ tweets of top secret information about the jurors.” The listing indicates that the funds will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
