Chad Smith and Matt Cameron Apologize to Foo Fighters Over Quotes About Taylor Hawkins

In a new Rolling Stone article about Taylor Hawkins, friends and colleagues of the late drummer gave interviews about his final months. It includes quotes claiming that Hawkins privately expressed discomfort about Foo Fighters’ extensive tour schedule. The band’s representatives denied these characterizations. Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, who were among the sources discussing Hawkins’ final private conversations, have since released statements today apologizing to Hawkins’ bandmates and family. They also distanced themselves from the article. “When I agreed to take part in the Rolling Stone article about Taylor, I assumed it would be a celebration of his life and work,” Matt Cameron wrote in a statement. “My quotes were taken out of context and shaped int...

New York State Senate Passes Bill Limiting Use of Song Lyrics in Court

New York’s State Senate approved a bill Tuesday (May 17) that would limit prosecutors’ use of song lyrics and other forms of “creative expression” as evidence in criminal cases. Senate Bill S7527 would not ban prosecutors from presenting lyrics or other material to a jury, but would require them to show that the work is “literal, rather than figurative or fictional.” The bill, which was sponsored by Senators Jamaal Bailey and Brad Hoylman, received public support from Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Killer Mike, Fat Joe, and Robin Thicke, among others. Before the bill can become a law, it must pass the New York State Assembly; a companion bill sponsored by Assembly Member Catalina Cruz is pending before a committee and awaiting a vote.  The bill, while in the works for months, comes as Atlanta rapp...

Spider-Man Director Jon Watts to Helm Star Wars Series Inspired by 1980s Steven Spielberg

Have you ever wondered what the Goonies would make of a Gungan, or wanted to see how E.T. and Elliot would handle the Hutts? We may find out, because Jon Watts, who directed the latest Spider-Man trilogy, has been tapped to helm a new Star Wars series for Disney+, and according to Lucasfilm it’s inspired by Steven Spielberg’s “classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.” As Vanity Fair reports, Watts’ series is currently known by the code name Grammar Rodeo, which is a reference to an episode of The Simpsons in which Bart and his friends lie to their parents about attending a scholarly competition and instead go joyriding in a car. Watts co-created the project with writer Chris Ford; the pair previously worked together on the screenplay...

Meanwhile, the Kevin Costner-led Yellowstone debuted in 2018 and just wrapped...

While it’s not clear exactly what causes her to gain the green skin and about five feet of height in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s clear her new look will cause some of the same issues. When Banner warns her that her powers are “triggered by ange...

Matt Cameron, Chad Smith Distance Themselves from Rolling Stone Interview About Taylor Hawkins

Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith say that recent comments they made regarding Taylor Hawkins’ state of mind prior to his passing were taken out of context. In a feature published by Rolling Stone on Monday, Cameron was quoted as saying that Hawkins felt “he couldn’t keep up” with the rigors of being a drummer in a prominent rock band. Cameron, a close friend and collaborator Hawkins’ for decades, reportedly told Rolling Stone that Hawkins had recently spoke to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl about his role in the band. “He had a heart-to-heart with Dave and, yeah, he told me that he ‘couldn’t fucking do it anymore’ — those were his words,” Cameron was quoted as saying. “So I guess they did come to some understanding, but it just seems like the touring sc...

The charges normally have a 20-year mandatory minimum prison term, but Walter entered into a plea agreement last October which garnered him a 17-year sentence.
