Apple dealt a deadly blow this week when they announced the iPod, originally released in 2001, will be no more. While its memory lives on via features now standard to the casual listening experience (playlists, play counts, and most famously, the shuffle button), there’s one iPod feature that we can’t dare to forget: the “silhouette” commercials. Debuted in the early 2000s alongside the 3rd and 4th generation iPod Classics, Apple’s most iconic line of ads featured silhouette figures moving and grooving in front of candy-colored backgrounds and of course, their white corded headphones. One of our favorite songs to set the soundtrack for a silhouette commercial was “Technologic” by Daft Punk. It’s like a time capsule for its 2005 release ...
PEEKABOO has returned with yet another neck-breaking gem. Widely recognized for a style that is uniquely his, as well as festival anthems such as “Maniac” and “Babatunde,” PEEKABOO is currently riding high off collaborations with the likes of Eptic and Zeds Dead, as well as a remix and B2B performance with none other than NGHTMRE. For his latest colossal collaboration, the talented producer and DJ has just teamed up with the UK bass pioneer, Caspa, to unveil “RELOAD” via Deadbeats. This is not the first time the two titans have crossed paths. Back in 2018, PEEKABOO took on Caspa’s single, “Tech Foul,” with an official remix. “RELOAD” sees the duo officially join forces four years later, while masterfully combining their respective styles into a brain-melting mix of eer...
The 5,000 biggest fans of The Chainsmokers will soon become part-owners of the duo’s newly released fourth LP – So Far So Good. Partnering with 3LAU‘s NFT marketplace, Royal, The Chainsmokers are turning over 1% of the ownership rights from the album back to their fans. Fans who hold these tokens will receive the monetary benefits that come with such ownership, including entitlement to a fractionalized portion of the cash flows for each stream generated. Additionally, the 5,000 NFT holders will earn exclusive perks including access to The Chainsmokers themselves via a private Discord channel and more. “We are also planning giveaways an...
Primus had a couple of potentially intimidating fans on Friday (May 14th) at Toronto’s Massey Hall, where Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson were in attendance. After all, Primus are paying tribute to Rush during this tour, but it appears they didn’t disappoint the prog-rock legends. Primus have been playing Rush’s A Farewell to Kings in its entirety, along with select Primus cuts, on the ongoing tribute run. When the route passed through Rush’s native Canada, it only made sense for Lee and Lifeson to drop by and check it out (Lee had previously given Primus’ Les Claypool some in-person tips prior to the tour). “On Friday night we had the joyful experience of reuniting with our grand pals from Primus… Les, Ler, Herb and their gang…” wrote Lee on Instagram. “We sat side stage as they i...
On the eve of the release of their new album, Headful of Sugar — and drummer Olive Faber’s birthday, no less — Sunflower Bean finally got to headline one of their hometown’s biggest venues: Webster Hall. (Get tickets for the rest of their upcoming headlining dates here.) The setlist featured almost every song from the trio’s latest LP (except highlight “Stand by Me,” which admittedly was a strange omission), but there were plenty of fan favorites and deep cuts in there too. “Twentytwo” — a track Julia Cumming revealed to us is her favorite song to play live — mad an appearance early on, while the encore closed with “Somebody Call a Doctor” off their very first EP, 2015’s Show Me Your Seven Secrets. While the concert was clearly a showcase for Headful of Sugar, it was also a fasci...

It’s been nearly three years since new episodes of Black Mirror landed on Netflix, but Variety reports the streamer has now greenlit the dystopian sci-fi series for Season 6. Currently in pre-production, details of the new season are being kept under wraps, but Variety describes it as “more cinematic in scope,” with each episode being “treated as an individual film.” Considering most of the recent episodes have run well over an hour, it will be interesting to see how the Black Mirror showrunners take the series to the next level. Season 5 of Black Mirror premiered in June 2019. Containing three episodes, it featured a star-studded cast of Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Artists took over Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday evening for the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. Hosted by Diddy, who also served as the opening act for the event, the night celebrated the standout music released over the past year. Following Diddy’s performance, Jack Harlow rapped his hit track “First Class” and Silk Sonic offered its take on Con Funk Shun’s 1982 single “Love’s Train.” Competing in the category with The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift, Drake reigned supreme as Billboard’s Top Artist of the Year. He also won in the categories Top Male Artist and Top Rap Artist, as well as Top Rap Male Artist. Megan Thee Stallion secured the place of Top Rap Female Artist, a category that also included Cardi B and Latto as nominees. Doja Cat, meanwhile, won...
Megan Thee Stallion stopped by the Billboard Music Awards tonight (May 15). She performed her new single “Plan B” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Following an understandably heavily censored performance of the single, she performed her verses of her Dua Lipa collaboration “The Sweetest Pie.” Watch it happen below. The Houston rapper was recently honored with her very own day in her native city. She was awarded the key to Houston, and Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaimed that May 2 is officially Megan Thee Stallion Day. Megan dropped her most recent solo track, “Plan B,” last month, after debuting it during her Coachella performance the previous week. She previously performed “The Sweetest Pie” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, which included a moment where she twerked out a piano m...
Black Mirror will return to Netflix for a sixth season, Variety and Deadline report. The dystopian sci-fi series will likely follow a similar format to Season 5, which had three episodes, each running at just over an hour. Creators Charlie Booker and Annabel Jones are bringing the series back to Netflix, despite leaving the production company that owns the Black Mirror rights; their new company, Broke & Bones, eventually reached a deal with rightsholder Banijay to license the show to Netflix, Variety reports. The fifth season featured Miley Cyrus covering Nine Inch Nails in her role as a pop star. In late December 2018, Netflix released an interactive Black Mirror film called Bandersnatch, which allowed viewers to select various permutations by choosing a path at key moments, like a ch...

Osees don’t seem to mutate or morph so much as remain extraordinarily open to what moves them to do next and capable of getting music done that’s consistently good. What motivated the band to turn loose this hyperconcentrated slightly less than 22 minute burst of meteor density somewhat punkazoidal music? When it comes to the Osees, that’s at best a mediocre inquiry as they just do the next thing, genre, prevailing tastes or whatever influence might guide a lesser unit are not even a consideration. A Foul Form is a cool pivot from their 2020 studio efforts Metamorphosed, Panther Rotate, and Protean Threat. A Foul Form vigorously shakes the Oseesetch a sketch clear so whatever comes next (which will probably be sooner than later) will likely be something completely different yet again. As f...
