The 100 Best Christmas Songs of All Time: Staff List

There’s a reason that listeners seem to get more anxious every year for the Christmas music season to start: Nothing else feels quite like it. The things that make Christmas songs great — whether carols, old pop standards or newer enduring hits — are most of the same things that make pop great in general: emotional connection, universal relatability, unshakeable catchiness. But Christmas music has a wavelength entirely its own, shared by an overwhelming majority of its most recognizable classics: a sort of sublime yearning that’s at once profoundly saddening and deeply comforting. It evokes a visceral, nearly oppressive sentimentality, one fortified and strengthened by a lifetime’s worth of associated holiday memories — personal, familial, romantic, nostalgic. It’s music for the most wonde...

The Simpsons Episode with Tiananmen Square Reference Cut from Disney+ Hong Kong

Disney+ launched in Hong Kong earlier this month, finally giving the city’s residents access to all its various IPs. Well, almost all of them; it turns out one particular episode of The Simpsons has been omitted from the streaming platform due to its references to Tiananmen Square. Season 16, Episode 12 of The Simpsons finds Aunt Selma heading to China to adopt a baby, with Homer posing as her husband. When the family attempts to flee the country with the newborn in hand, they end up in Tiananmen Square, where a sign reads, “Tien An Men Square: On this site, in 1989, nothing happened.” Selma is then stopped by the head of the adoption agency as she arrives in a tank, making a visual reference to the famed Tank Man from the 1989 Beijing protests and crackdown. As one might expect,...

Courtney Barnett Kicks Off Her North American Tour in the Desert: Photos and Recap

Joshua Tree got a real treat this past Saturday evening (November 27th), as Courtney Barnett kicked off her North American tour at the renowned Pappy and Harriet’s. Consequence was on site to catch all of the action; check out our full gallery of photos below. The Pioneertown, California restaurant and venue was fitting for the energy Barnett brings to her live shows. They gave you the feeling like you were right at home with a hot cup of tea, by the fire, wrapped in a blanket. Advertisement Related Video Then it...

Yoko Ono Shares Article Claiming Peter Jackson’s Get Back Proves She Didn’t Break Up The Beatles

Yoko Ono has shared an Uproxx article that suggests Peter Jackson’s titanic new documentary Get Back proves she didn’t break up The Beatles. Ever since the Fab Four disbanded in 1970, some fans have laid the blame on John Lennon’s wife Ono. This theory never held up under scrutiny, and it’s been further disproved with the release of Get Back, which shows Paul McCartney micromanaging, George Harrison growing frustrated, and Lennon mentally checking out, all while Ringo Starr smiles gamely in an attempt to keep the recording process for Let It Be from totally falling apart. Uproxx collected viewer reactions on Twitter, with many fans noting that Ono’s in-studio presence was incredibly mild. During the eight-hour documentar...

Judas Priest Unveil Rescheduled 2022 North American Tour Dates

Judas Priest have rescheduled their 2022 “50 Heavy Metal Years” North American tour. Queensrÿche have replaced Sabaton as the support act for the new dates. Judas Priest were forced to postpone the remainder of their fall tour when guitarist Richie Faulkner nearly died after suffering a major heart emergency during the band’s set at the Louder Than Life fest in September. Faulkner’s aorta ruptured onstage during the band’s last song, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent a 10-hour life-saving surgery. Faulkner is now headed toward recovery and Judas Priest appear ready to return to the road in 2022. The updated itinerary kicks off March 4th in Peoria, Illinois, and concludes on April 13th in Laval, Quebec, with tickets available via Ticketmaster. Advertisement Related V...

DEF LEPPARD’s RICK ALLEN Once Again Says Fans Will Get Some New Music In ‘Not-Too-Distant Future’

During a new appearance on “The Jeremy White Show”, DEF LEPPARD drummer Rick Allen spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band’s next studio album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Here’s the thing: there’s always new music on the go with DEF LEPPARD. It’s just whether it makes it to a collection. But songs are being produced all the time, particularly with the age of technology and not necessarily having to be in the same room as the other person. Obviously, there’s stuff that I can’t talk about, but in the not-too-distant future, I’m sure people are gonna get to her new music.” Asked if it’s still important for DEF LEPPARD to release full-length albums or there’s a possibilit...

Xbox ‘Halo Infinite’ Players Want Crossplay Fix to Avoid Hackers on PC

As reported before, cheating is quickly becoming one of Halo Infinite‘s biggest problems, and now a group of Xbox players is getting fed up with it, asking 343 Industries to fix its crossplay feature. In the game’s current iteration, the developer has enabled crossplay permanently, and neither those on Xbox or PC can turn off the crossplay setting. For those on the console, this means they’re now forced to play with gamers running on PCs, which opens the gateway to many more hackers as we’ve seen previously, using aimbots and wallhacks to completely ruin the fun for other players in the match. While providing the option to disable crossplay won’t particularly make things better on the PC front, it will allow Xbox players to enjoy their own games with cheaters. Unfortunately, for now, 343 I...

Marvel Is Finally Getting Its Own MMORPG

After a flurry of mobile games and some more fleshed-out RPGs from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, Marvel Comics is finally diving into the MMO world. The news came from an investor presentation by Dimensional Ink, the same developer behind DC Comics’s own MMORPG DC Universe Online. While all that has been revealed right now is simply an MMO based on Marvel’s massive roster of superheroes and stories, we also know that the game is still a few good years away, even for just its trailers or teasers. DC Universe Online‘s lead Jack Emmert will also helm Marvel’s project. Most interestingly, as Kotaku points out, Daybreak (Dimensional Ink’s parent company) had announced plans to develop a Marvel MMO as early as 2018, although the studio was subsequently hit with layoffs an...
