London-based photographer Ollie Trenchard joins Hypebeast as a guest writer, sharing a photo-essay on Dekmantel 2024.As Dekmantel marked its 10th edition this summer, techno music – the backbone of the program – ushered in its unofficial 40th anniversary, a milestone marked by Juan Atkins’ 1985 track “No UFO’s" (released under his Model 500 moniker by Detroit-based label Metroplex and considered by music historians to be the first techno track). A diss track that allegedly comes from Pras Michél hears him throw blame at Ms. Lauryn Hill over the cancellation of The Fugees' tour dates.Entitled "Bar Mitzfa," the song was obtained by AllHipHop and supposedly features a few bars aimed at Hill over their musical work together. “Don’t blame me, blame her/She made the mess/Not another f*ckin’ penny, what I told ‘Clef,” Pras raps on the track, leading many to believe that he and Hill are not on good terms and that he has spoken about the issue with fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean. While none of the members have directly addressed the song, Pras did throw a subtle public jab at Hill when news of the tour's cancellation made its rounds. “I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story but oops … cat’s out the bag,” he...
Tyler, the Creator wants to right his past wrongs and personally apologize to Eminem over his public criticism of the latter's 2010 album, Recovery. In a recent appearance on Mavericks with Mav Carter, the IGOR artist revealed that the Netflix drama series Painkillers showed him a different point of view. "When [Recovery] came out I f*cking hated it. Publicly was like, ‘This sh*t is wack,’" Tyler said. "Didn’t like it, and after watching [Painkillers], I felt so bad about those tweets and things like that because thinking from his perspective, someone like me publicly saying that stuff and him off drugs and being clean and getting to a point in life where that’s behind him and me implying, ‘Nah, this sh*t is wack.'"He added, "He probably felt like I was attacking him. I thought I was just l...
SoundCloud is offering artists a new way to connect with their listeners – and monetize their fanbase – with the launch of a merch shop. The new SoundCloud Store will serve as a platform for artists to design and sell exclusive merch, a feature seemingly similar to Spotify’s shelling on merch in-app on an artist’s page. The main draw of the SoundCloud store is that there aren’t any upfront costs for artists, which makes it particularly enticing for independent acts. Artists create their own designs but all garments are produced and shipped in-house by SoundCloud. Making the platform even more appealing is that SoundCloud isn’t taking a cut of any profits from merch sales. There are a few limitations to who can participate in the SoundCloud Store. Artists must be subscribed to SoundCloud’s Nex...
