“Easy to wear” is probably one of the most irritating phrases in the whole of fashion (and let’s be honest, there are a lot to get annoyed by). What, exactly, does it mean? Surely all clothes should be easy to wear? That’s the whole damn point of them. As much as it pains me to give these three words justification, here’s how I interpret them: Easy-to-wear clothing is the sort of stuff you don’t have to spend much time thinking about. It’s a wardrobe staple that you’d happily wear whether you’re 15 or 85. There’s little faffing involved. Well, prepare to hear the words with more frequency come spring and summer 2021, as that’s exactly what this season is all about. While I love being amazed by innovative and fresh takes on fashion, on the who...
If you’re looking to add some new pieces to your wardrobe for the year ahead, I’m here to share the best finds from Zara, H&M, and Mango that I’ve been eyeing up recently. I shop from the retailers regularly since they have lots of great wardrobe staples that I tend to wear on repeat. From my go-to bodysuits that continue to be stocked in new shades (because they’re that good) to tweed suiting I wear on repeat, you’ll certainly find some great pieces from each of the retailers in my closet. When buying them, I approach my purchases like I would anything else I’m adding to my wardrobe. I consider how often I’ll wear the items and if they’ll be something that works into my overall vibe, as opposed to something that is purely trend-driven and will have a short shelf-life. Here, I’m sharin...
I always knew that I liked perfume, but it wasn’t until my last house move when my fragrances required an entire packing box that I realised how much I truly love it. Sure, I was able to part with a couple out-of-date bottles, but most of my stash felt too precious to cull. The thing about perfume is that it’s so personal. Scent is linked so closely to memory that even if you’ve only worn a fragrance a few times, you can evoke a past time and place with just one spritz. The problem? Perfume is expensive. Of all the products I’ve collected over the years, my fragrances are worth the most, and unfortunately, I have expensive taste in scents. Byredo, Tom Ford, Maison Margiela… Most of my favourite perfume brands will set you back around £100 for a bottle. Tru...
If you made a list of everything you would ideally want out of a new purchase, I would hazard a guess that longevity is up there with versatility and design. It certainly is for me, anyway. One of the key considerations for time-tested style is the ability to adapt your clothing to life’s shifting demands, and of course the variability of our wonderful British weather. The ultimate aim is to have a wardrobe which is made up of these fashion workhorses, however, in my experience there tend to be certain items that you stumble across that particularly ace their cost-per-wear test. The team at Who What Wear UK prides itself on uncovering cult items before they’ve even made it off the production line. We’re keen, to say the least, and a great portion of our time is spent documenting and analysing the Instagram posts of the thousands of cool women we follow on Instagram for high-street sightings. In fact, we have WhatsApp groups and Slack channels dedicated to these affordably priced power pieces, and we want to update you on them as soon as possible (aka after we’ve bought our faves). Our skills are so attuned that more often than not, we’ll have an inkling about a certain piece before it has hit the big time. Sometimes, you’ll find a flurry of brand-specific action due to a paid activation or natural desire to wear a parti...
We here at Who What Wear like to talk in great detail (and with much passion!) about our jeans. They are one of the hardest-working items in our wardrobes, after all. We’ve already touched upon the biggest jean trends we’ll all be wearing in 2021—including ’90s baggy styles, cross-over waistbands and, of course, with wider-leg styles coming back in general, it only makes sense that flares have returned. Yes, friends, the ’70s silhouette is back, and we’ve already spotted them on a host of street style leaders (back in September last year, when Fashion Week was still happening) as well as on celebrities such as Katie Holmes. Thanks to designers such as Balmain, Victoria Beckham and Ulla Johnson, leg-lengthening flares are set to be a staple part o...
Put simply, Kate Moss just knows how to wear clothes. Never succumbing to trends that don’t suit her rock-chick-meets-vintage-boho style, she’s carved out the perfect wardrobe for herself, taking inspiration from ’60s fashion icons, her favourite musicians, and the designers she calls her close friends. Since Kate’s catwalk debut at Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 1992 show, we’ve watched her style evolve into many, fabulous forms. In the ’90s, she was known for slinky, spaghetti strap dresses and her expert pairing of second-hand pieces with haute couture. Then, her party girl lifestyle ushered in the rock chick aesthetic that we know and love her for. And when she isn’t looking effortlessly edgy, she’s floating around in beautiful, vinta...
People often get a little bit confused when I harp on about my thin hair. “Your hair isn’t even that thin,” they say. However, it’s important to note that just because somebody has a lot of hair, doesn’t mean it’s thick. My hair is long, sure, but when my locks are overdue for a cut, they look scraggly, and my lack of actual strands becomes all too apparent. However, that’s not to say that my hair isn’t consistently thin all over. At the nape of my neck, I’d say I have an average amount of hair, but as you move your attention toward the crown of my head, you could probably count the individual hairs sprouting out of my scalp. Over the years, I’ve become somewhat self-conscious of the bald(ish) patch where my thin hair parts at the crown of my head and have dedicated a lot of tim...
Founded in Paris in 1847, what once was a small workshop has gone on to become one of the, if not the, most iconic jewellery brands in history. Cartier worked closely with countless sovereigns and royal families worldwide, creating everything from crowns and tiaras to necklaces and earrings. The brand has since become a regular on the red carpet, with celebrities wearing its glittering creations for premieres, awards season, and industry events. However, Cartier isn’t all about ornate pieces. (Though, it does them exceptionally well.) Some of its most recognisable jewellery, particularly the pieces that have become status symbols, have an industrial aesthetic—one of which is the Juste un Clou bangle. The Juste un Clou bracelet is the Cartier Love bracelet’s younger an...
It’s probably safe to say that no one’s hair is in a particularly good way right now. For many, it has been months since they last sat in a salon chair. The luckier ones might have been able to slip an appointment in at some point towards the end of last year but will likely be overdue for some salon care by the time doors reopen. While the likes of split ends, dryness, and breakage might be rearing their ugly heads for basically everyone right now, if you have blonde hair, it’s likely your strands are suffering even more intensely. The truth is that blonde hair requires a lot of extra care and attention to remain healthy, especially if it has been bleached or lightened. If you have blonde hair, you better believe that every time you sit down in the salon chair your st...
When major brands like VB and influencer favourite The Row are picking up on something like this, you know it’s bound to be big. Contemporary brands like Wardrobe.NYC have also worked on the perfect pairs which are already selling out on Matches, and although sometimes it takes a good while for these designer trends to hit the high street, luckily for us, some of our favourites have jumped to it, from M&S to Zara. Last year, when I first saw the trend taking off (and we were still working from offices), I tried on as many pairs of split-hem trousers as I could get my hands on, from denim to legging styles. But as most of us are staying indoors and living in leggings, it would be a good time to republish my findings. Let me tell you, Rosie is re...
Image Source: Getty Images/Mark Boland When you think of supermodels, your mind probably springs to gorgeous women draped in designer clothes. But when you think of supermodel Kate Moss, perhaps you think of her propensity for animal print, her undying love of black, and her extensive vintage and recycled wardrobe. Way before Macklemore sang about the wonders of thrift shopping, Kate Moss already understood the staying power of clothes that had survived various owners, years, and trends. After being spotted at JFK Airport, she was introduced as a model in the “3rd Summer of Love” issue of The Face at only 16 years old. Moss’s foray into the spotlight was quick and early. However, she didn’t abandon her second-hand style, and her arrival on the scene was heralded as ...
