The leaves are browning, October is upon us, and it’s time to pull your neglected boots out from the depths of your wardrobe. Keep them somewhere handy, because for the next few months you won’t want to wear anything else. Living in the UK, we’re all seasoned experts in wearing boots. Our reliance on hard-wearing footwear means we’ve all tried just about every variation—knee-high, heeled, lace-up and Chelsea, this autumn/winter essential is well-loved in all its forms. You probably already have a pair of flat boots in your collection; if not just because they’re an easy option when you don’t want to think that hard about your outfit. There’s no denying flats make it quicker ...
We all know that lingerie is one of the most delicate items we own, and as such, it requires additional thought when it comes to cleaning. Unlike clothing, which literally has washing instructions laid out in black and white on the label, there’s a big grey area surrounding bra care. Should we simply throw them in the wash with similar colours, or should we be doing dedicated loads? Is hand-washing really the better option? And just how often should you wash your bras, anyway? We have lots of questions, so we decided to seek out the answers. In an attempt to understand the washing etiquette of our smalls, we turned to an expert on the subject. Debora Ramos, La Perla’s development manager (who has been with the lingerie giant for over 20 years), for her expert opinion on the mat...
They’ve certainly been a mainstay of my personal wardrobe since I started working in the fashion industry almost a decade ago, and I have it on good authority that it’s the same for my fellow editors and non-fashion friends as well— despite us all having different personal tastes. When I take stock of my wardrobe each season, my blazer collection (quite an impressive one by now, I must say) is always the constant that survives any culling. So when it comes to buying a blazer, it clearly makes good financial, logical (and ecological) sense to opt for a premium quality style. And with so many beautiful ones available, from mid-range designer to high-end luxury price points, you’re positively spoilt for choice if you’v...
Certain moments live eternally within the fashion lexicon, and they continually serve as a reference point to everyone after them. One of those being when Madonna wore the infamous conical Jean Paul Gaultier bra she wore during her Blonde Ambition tour. Needless to say, designers have long adopted intimates as something more than pieces to slip underneath our clothes. Fast forward 30 years after the iconic bra, and lingerie is still as ever a part of ready-to-wear’s DNA (for evidence, a revived Jean Paul Gaultier has recently rereleased the cone bra). Looking at the most recent autumn collections—which are also now hitting retailers—sparkly bras, transparent skirts, and corsets litter its offerings. Some might even say risqué trends are at...
Pores. They are one of the biggest skincare concerns for many of us. They’re usually determined by genetics and your skin type, and while many brands and products might make the miraculous promise of making pores disappear, I’m here to tell you that that magic product just doesn’t exist. While we cannot make our skin ‘poreless’ (pores actually play an important role in keeping our skin healthy, so you wouldn’t want to be totally rid of them), there are ways to minimise them. Good skincare ingredients and in-clinic treatments such as microneedling can help improve the look of enlarged pores, but there is no overnight solution. However, some makeup trickery can temporarily smooth over pores for a more even appearance. You Deserve to Make Money Even Wh...
When deciding what to wear to the airport, I always have two questions in mind. First: Is it easy to wear through the security check? Second: Is it easy to use the restroom in? Things like complicated footwear, jumpsuits, and too-tight skinny trousers are some of the biggest offenders that don’t pass the test, but Amal Clooney is out here throwing caution to the wind and making me deeply reconsider. For us, it’s an outfit that we can see ourselves living in this autumn. As we enter the colder months of the year, we’re on the hunt for any outfit combination that makes getting dressed in the morning easier, and this particular formula is one to follow. Knit dresses are a chic yet insulating way to dress for cooler days, and can be easily styled with all...
For the longest time, I only had eyes for block-heel ankle boots; no other boot style got a look in. However, a few years ago, I invested in the first knee-high boots I’d had since my teens, and they were a game changer. Aside from jeans, I very rarely wear trousers. Nine times out of 10, you’ll catch me wearing a midi dress. And after years of enduring chilly calves and not-quite-right hemlines and boot heights, knee boots swooped in and made every outfit (read: dress) I wore so much chicer and more put-together. Fast-forward to 2022, and I currently have four pairs of knee-high boots in my footwear rotation: an on-trend chunky pair from M&S, which I bought as soon as I saw them on a colleague; a beige suede option from Sézane, which I invested in hoping it would m...
When it comes to fashion we all have our vices and the pieces that excite us the most. Some of us are dress obsessives with an extensive collection of everything from minis to maxis, others are jewellery magpies who feel naked without their gilding, and the bag ladies (who are often the easiest to spot) always manage to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to the arm candy we need to know about. I however, am a shoe fanatic. I spend the better part of my days, looking at shoes, thinking about shoes, and writing about shoes, and after amassing a collection that spans everything from Mary-Janes to mules, I feel well placed to discuss the latest trends happening south of the ankle. The latest style I have fallen for is controversially, a kitten heel, but even more s...
Whenever I wear a double-denim outfit, there’s almost always someone who comments on how “brave” I am for wearing such a bold look. Okay, so I understand the reservations some people might have around the “Canadian tuxedo”—most of which relate to a certain Justin and Britney look c.2001 or, alternatively, the memory of a questionable teenage outfit they’d rather forget—but I find that double denim is one of the coolest and easiest looks you can wear for autumn. October is here and with it comes the arrival of autumn. Our days of summer dresses, basket bags and sandals are long behind us and the cold weather is looking like it’s here to stay. While this transition has been taking place over the last few weeks, there is one topic that has dominated the Who What Wear team’s conversations across Slack, email and our in person office catch ups: Autumn fashion. So, after listening to everyone share what they’re after for the season ahead, as well as discovering what they’ve already taken the plunge and invested in, I figured it was worth sharing with you. Considering we spend all day, every day (well most days) scouring the new-in sections online, sharing our favourite finds, rounding up the trends to know and deep diving into designer colle...

The funny thing is this cult classic from Clinique has been around since the early ’70s. Before TikTok discovered it, one tube was sold every three minutes, and for good reason. The deep, dark plum color almost looks black in the tube, but once you swipe it on your lips, it transforms into a sheer veil of the ultimate just-bitten berry shade. It’s one of the few products that actually looks good on everyone. The formula uses a creamy, balmy base that combines the perfect amount of red, blue, and yellow pigment, so it really enhances everyone’s natural lip color. The beauty team and I were lucky enough to get our hands on a tube, and we had to share the results. Keep scrolling for everyone’s take.
