BMW Celebrates M’s 50th Birthday With Rare Motorsport-Inspired Roundels

BMW is celebrating 50 years of its M division with a range of special treatments that can be applied to various M cars (and M Sport models) within the range. Commencing January 2022, BMW M GmbH will offer customers the choice to spec their car with a classic “BMW Motorsport” logo, decorating the front hood, rear, and wheel hubs. The shifted semicircle logo harks back to 1973, and was frequently used on its racing cars. This design only ever appeared on motorsport cars, and once on the limited-production M1 from 1978, so it’s a truly special occasion that this can now be specced on cars such as the M3 and M4 — and the soon-coming BMW M3 Touring, which has just been announced. In addition to the exclusive roundel, BMW will also offer rare colors from the history of M ...

Superformance Links up With Vintage Electric for a Pair of EV Cobras

Just in time for the holidays, Superformance has linked up with Vintage Electric to create an iconic Shelby Cobra EV duo. On the four-wheeled front, the MKIII-E comes fitted with the same rear-drive motor found on the Tesla Model S and boasts 1,500 pound-feet of torque to provide incredible acceleration. The car is powered by a custom battery pack consisting of two LG Energy 16-cell units as well as a 32kWh pack to provide a range of 100 miles. As for the two-wheeled part of the bundle, Vintage Electric has taken inspiration from Carroll Shelby‘s personal 289 Slabside created the electric bike in the same blue metallic N6 color scheme, complete with black racing stripes and Cobra badges.  It carries a 48V battery hooked up to a 1,123W cell inside a matte black cast-aluminum housing t...

For $49,500 USD, You Can Turn Your (Future) Tesla Cybertruck Into a Camper

Californian startup FORM has unveiled the Camper, otherwise known as a conceptual take on turning the yet-to-release Tesla Cybertruck into a campervan. This modular design is comprised of a free-standing awning, if you will, that connects to the rear bed of the Elon Musk-designed electric truck, and interestingly, it’s also compatible with other trucks such as the Ford F-150 or the Chevrolet Silverado. Regardless, it comes in at just 1,000 lbs and is aerodynamically designed for minimal amounts of drag so that it won’t drain the Cybertruck’s range. Measuring at 195 sq. ft of usable space, the FORM Camper comes with an indoor and outdoor kitchen, sleeping compartments, a NEBIA shower, a cool and hot air-circulating fan, and a 100-gallon water tank that incorporates reverse...

Alpine Refines Its Range of A110 Sports Cars

The French automotive brand Alpine is known for its racing pedigree, having won numerous times at the Monte Carlo Rally, Le Mans, and World Rally Championships in the ’60s and ’70s, and like its past cars, today’s range of A110 models are reserved for those who favor the pure exercise of driving over status symbols and showboating. Now, Alpine has announced a new range of A110 iterations for the 2022 model year, introducing a revised A110, a new A110 GT, and a top-spec A110 S. Known for being lightweight and agile, the cars don’t need a lot of power to prove that they can be a good heap of fun on the road or track. Each comes with a four-cylinder 1.8-liter turbo engine and a Getrag seven-speed automatic gearbox with a dual wet clutch, offering 252 BHP in its stock f...

Rolls Royce’s All-Electric Aircraft Hits Record Speeds

Rolls-Royce‘s all-electric “Spirit of Innovation” aircraft hit a maximum speed of 623 km/h (387.4 mph) last week, likely setting a new world record as the fastest all-electric aircraft. The company said in a press release that it has submitted data to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), a global body that controls and certifies world aeronautical and astronautical records. The previous top speed reached by an all-electric aircraft over 3 kilometers was 213.04 km/h (132mph), while Spirit of Innovation achieved 555 km/h (345.4 mph) over 3 kilometers at the U.K. Ministry of Defense’s Boscombe Down experimental aircraft testing site last week. During its runs, the aircraft achieved a speed of 532.1km/h (330 mph) over 15 kilometers — 55% faster than the previous record...

Porsche’s Taycan GTS Finds the Sweet Spot

It’s been quite the month for the German marque Porsche, having released its track-ready 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport and road-going counterpart, and of course the new-gen 911 earlier this year, but now it’s put the focus back on its electric car, the Taycan, with the announcement of a GTS spec. Sitting between the ‘entry-level’ Taycan 4s and top-spec Turbo iteration, the GTS Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo are described as being the range’s sweet spot. This sporty all-rounder comes with 598 PS, which is good for a 0-62 MPH time of 3.7 seconds in both body forms and a top speed of 155 MPH. The general range is 263 to 313 miles, depending on just how hard you push the car and in what environment you are driving in, but ultimately these figures make for the first...

Next-Gen Dodge Challenger and Charger Will be “eMuscle” Cars

It comes as no surprise that the automotive industry will inevitably turn its back on internal combustion engines (ICE) in favor of electrification, but for the likes of Dodge — one of the hallmarks of good ol’ American muscle — to announce it too will join the EV club, may come as a shock to some. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel if Dodge has anything to do with it. As The Verge reports, Dodge will not “sell electric cars, it will sell eMuscle” cars instead. By axing the Charger and Challenger by 2024, it makes way for a new era of muscle cars, ones that are powered by batteries. As recent times have shown, this may not be such a bad thing. The likes of Porsche and Audi have made waves in the performance electric car market, while Mercedes...

Toyo Tires Showcases a Custom 1989 BMW E30 M3 by Joshua Vides

Toyo Tires recently introduced a custom hand-painted 1989 BMW E30 M3  by artist Joshua Vides at the SEMA 2021 Show in Las Vegas alongside more than 35 of its world-debut vehicles. The hand-painted livery takes inspiration from rally cars, with an excess of banners and racing iconography in Vides’ signature black and white style. A variety of Toyo Tires, BBS, Spunge, and RTI Racing logos are found throughout the body, and Vides name and racing number are drawn on the passenger door. Additional arrow and traffic cone motifs are found on the side mirrors and rear spoiler. The grail street-legal BMW was modified with a set of Toyo Proxes Sport A/S tires, red H&R Springs, and BBS RS wheels. Donut designs are laid throughout the showroom floor and across the adjacent walls to further V...

UK Mandate Will Officially Require Every New Home To Have EV Chargers Starting 2022

The U.K. government has officially announced that electric vehicle charging stations will be required for all new businesses and new homes starting in 2022. The latest mandate helps to push forward the EV agenda in the country by adding approximately 145,000 extra charging points per year. As more and more European countries are looking towards moving their communities towards reducing fossil fuel, the U.K. is taking one of its first major steps towards the goal. According to the government press release, “This will mean people can buy new properties already ready for an electric vehicle future while ensuring charge points are readily available at new shops and workplaces across the U.K. — making it as easy as refueling petrol or diesel car today.” The U.K. government has recen...
