Christina Roki Shows You How to Detail the Toyota GR Supra Like a Pro

In the next installment of How To, Hypebeast taps automotive enthusiast and social media personality Christina Roki to show you how to detail your vehicle like a pro to get it show-ready. Roki’s YouTube channel, Christina & Grant, shared with her partner Grant Sloan, features a slew of car reviews, test drives and customization tutorials briefing you on how to take your ride to the next level. In this How To demonstration, Roki tests her skills on the Toyota GR Supra. “What I love about the Toyota GR Supra is the fast shifting eight speed automatic transmission,” says Roki. Paired with the vehicle’s quintessential race car design — drawing inspiration from the FT-1 Concept, 2000GT and the A80 Supra — the Toyota GR Supra holds a special place in the manufacturer’s sports car lega...

Gagosian Spotlights the Final Decade of Cy Twombly’s Career

The Northeast is currently playing host to two major exhibitions on legendary abstract artist, Cy Twombly. The first, held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), unearths Twombly’s lifelong fascination with history and mythology — while the latter show spotlights works created in the last decade of the artist’s life. Held at Gagosian‘s 980 Madison Avenue location in New York, Cy Twombly is mapped across two floors and presents a series of large-scale paintings, such as those made in the early 2000s, following his return to painting. Highlights of the exhibition include a verdant six-panel set of paintings, Untitled I–VI (Green Painting) (2002–03), which only went on view once for the public during the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2016 exhibition Unfinished: Thoughts Made Visible. I Underestimated This Simple Item—8 Outfits That Prove It’s A Wardrobe Staple

Often, the most versatile items in our wardrobes are obvious to us. Blue jeans? No brainer. White tee? A ride-or-die staple. But some less-talked-about pieces ooze quiet confidence, sneaking into countless everyday outfits without us even noticing. I’m thinking of one item in particular: The humble black skirt. I realised recently that when I’m not wearing jeans or loosely tailored trousers, this is what I reach for to build my outfits from. And the true beauty of the black skirt is that it comes in myriad forms. From slinky satin iterations to leather minis, there’s a skirt for every occasion. While trends might dictate which one you choose on a particular day (right now, I’m searching for the perfect pleated maxi—the H&M ...

The New Honda Civic Type R Is Two Steps Back, Three Steps Forward

The Type R badge has always been the hot ticket item from Honda, ever since its introduction in 1992 with the flagship Honda NSX. The US didn’t see its first Type R model until 1998, bestowed upon the Integra coupe under the luxury subsidiary, Acura. It wasn’t until almost 20 years later did the US finally receive the Type R badge on the compact Civic in 2017, which by then was the “CTR” moniker’s fifth iteration and a whopping 10th generation for the base car itself. Needless to say, US fans were hungry by the time the first official Civic Type R arrived. Now, we Americans are graced with our second generation of Honda Civic Type R, known within the car circles by its internal ‘FL5’ chassis code. In comparison with the first FK8, the FL5 can be su...

An Oil Sketch Covered in Bird Poop Is Expected to Garner Millions at Auction

Back in 2002, New York art collector Albert B. Roberts stumbled upon an oil painting with bird droppings scattered over it and believed it to be a genuine piece by Flemish Baroque artist, Anthony van Dyck. Roberts paid $600 USD to acquire the sketch and had it authenticated in 2019 by art historian Susan Barnes, who deemed it “surprisingly well-preserved” and an “impressive and important find that helps us understand more about the artist’s method as a young man.” Sotheby’s recently acquired the sketch by Roberts’ estate after his death in 2021 and will feature it in its upcoming Masters Week auction, where it is expected to garner roughly $3M USD. Experts believe Van Dyck created the piece between 1615 and 1618, while working as an assistant to Peter Paul Rubens in Antwerp. The oil sketch...

I’m Convinced That Wearing This Jumper Will Make You Look Richer

The humble beige jumper is such an unassuming article of clothing, but that’s the key to its power. Yes, it’s just a jumper, and yes, it’s just a colour, but put them together and you’ve got yourself a garment that will make you look super polished. I can’t give you a definite reason as to why, but there’s somethng about that gorgeous buttery tone that instantly makes any knitwear-based look feel more elevated. Beige knitwear also has such an expensive feel, especially when looked after correctly (read more on that here). And when it comes to styling such a piece, the world really is your oyster. Try wearing yours with blue or even white denim, wide-leg trousers, a floral midi dress or a silky slip skirt. There’s nothing it won’t go with… M...

With timeless design in mind, I’ve set about finding you the luxury pieces that are well worth the investment. Think anti-trend, forever buys that aren’t tied to a buzzy aesthetic. Just the kind of classic, wardrobe essentials like a good quality coat, a comfortable pair of flats or a head-turning handbag that you’ll be happy to wear on rotation. In my opinion, the best investments are quality fabrics, versatile basics and statement accessories that will seamlessly weave into your current wardrobe. So what makes the cut for best of the best? Well, In this list you’ll find old favourites like the Max Mara teddy coat, the new classics from Toteme, understated offerings like The Row’s perfect flat shoe, and statement, pulse...

We’re 99.9% Sure These Will Be the Most Popular Flat Shoes of 2023

You’ll probably be unsurprised to hear that the shoes in question come from luxury, Olsen twins–owned label The Row. After all, their track record for creating the most coveted shoes is impressive to say the least. Lest we forget those zip-front boots, flatform flip-flops and ubiquitous fisherman sandals that remain on most-wanted lists years after their release. Fashion’s latest The Row obsession, however, comes in the form of a dainty ballet pump—basically cementing the return of the millennial flats, in case you were wondering. As with most Row pieces, their beauty is in their simplicity: They feature a barely there sole and buttery-soft leather in a range of muted colours, with a simple elastic strap over the top of the foot to give a Mary Jane–esque finish. Comfy and ti...

It’s Official: These Are the 7 Trainer Trends Everyone Will Wear in 2023

When I was tasked with unearthing the trainer trends that will take over in 2023, I was excited. Excited because I didn’t know what I would find. Although I’m very much a shoe person, trainers wouldn’t be my specialist subject in University Challenge. Of course, I own and love to wear several pairs of trainers, but I would never say they’re particularly trend-led. Moreover, they’re trainer styles I’ve worn since my teenage years; classic kicks that work with my aesthetic as opposed to defining it. Still, I believe I can work this to my advantage. When it came to discerning the most important trainer trends of 2023, I knew I could do so without bias. Instead of already having an idea of what these trends would be and what they’d look like, I wa...
