Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his brother are under investigation for alleged insider trading

The Securities and Exchange Commission is looking into whether recent stock sales by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his brother Kimbal Musk potentially violated insider trading rules, according to The Wall Street Journal. The investigation began late last year after Musk and his brother sold $108 million worth of Tesla shares, according to the Journal. That sale happened the day before Elon Musk polled his Twitter followers about whether he should sell 10 percent of his stake in the company — and promised to abide by the poll’s results. Elon Musk portrayed the stock sales as a way to cover any fees he would face if Congress imposed new taxes on unrealized capital gains. When the poll closed, 57.9 percent of more than 3.5 million participants had voted “yes,” and 42.1 percent voted “no.” The Tesla...

Reddit’s new Discover tab pushes the app into the modern social media era

Reddit today introduced a new Discover tab feature for the official Reddit iOS and Android apps. The new feature curates pictures, GIFs, and videos in a scrollable grid to help Reddit users find new content and communities that they may be interested in, in a way that’s reminiscent of Instagram’s explore page or Pinterest. The Discover tab replaces the Communities / Subscriptions tab in both iOS and Android as the second icon on the bottom, represented by a compass icon. While this means that now you can’t access a list of your subscribed communities from the bottom, fret not — you can still get to your subscribed community list by swiping in a drawer from the left (and yes, r/all is still there). There’s also a new slide-over from the right for your profile, where you can change your onli...

UA Flow Velociti Wind 2 review: smarter, faster running shoes

When you google “best running shoes,” you’re not going to find Under Armour at the top of many lists. That’s usually reserved for Brooks, Hoka, Saucony, Nike, New Balance, and a few other specialty brands. But there’s one thing Under Armour’s got that these other well-established brands don’t — a line of connected running shoes. The latest is the $160 Under Armour Flow Velociti Wind 2, and as you might guess from the name, it’s meant to help you run faster. The Velociti Wind 2 uses Under Armour’s all-in-one “Flow” foam. It acts as both the midsole and outsole, which shaves 2–3 ounces off the shoe’s overall weight. The Flow foam is also supposed to be “naturally sticky” for better traction without adding bulk. It also has a “Warp” upper that “adapts to the runner’s foot throughout their str...

EA CEO explains why company may ditch FIFA branding in leaked staff comments

In newly-leaked comments, EA CEO Andrew Wilson has explained why the company is considering ending its licensing deal with FIFA. The comments come after EA publicly announced in October it was reviewing its agreement with FIFA, and considering renaming the title of its popular soccer franchise. The comments, which are the CEO’s most candid remarks yet, were made in a company meeting last November and made public in a report from VGC this week. Wilson suggested that EA feels its FIFA branding deal is unnecessarily restrictive, while not providing enough value to the company. “Basically, what we get from FIFA in a non-World Cup year is the four letters on the front of the box,” Wilson said. Although its FIFA deal gets EA access to the World Cup every four years, the company also has over 300...

Oppo’s Find X5 Pro flagship is finally official

After extensive leaks and teases, Oppo has officially announced the Find X5 Pro, its flagship phone for 2022. It’s a fairly iterative follow-up to last year’s Find X3 Pro, but that was a great phone, and after spending more than a week with a not-yet-final version of its successor I’m expecting the same to hold true. The Find X5 Pro’s design plays off the curved unibody approach of the X3 Pro. This time around the back panel is ceramic, which when combined with the abstract shape of the camera bump gives the white unit I’ve been testing a futuristic, Star Wars stormtrooper-esque feel. It’s an eye-catching device with impressive build quality — it looks better in person than I expected. That unusual camera bump has a little less going on than the Find X3 Pro’s. The ring light-equipped micro...

Canon Introduces Its Longest RF-Mounted Telephoto Lens

Canon is now introducing the brand’s longest RF-mounted lenses. Arriving in either 800mm or 1,200mm focal lengths, the two new lenses are optimal for sports and wildlife photography, especially for photojournalists on the go. The RF 800mm F5.6 L IS USM boasts a short focusing distance of just 2.6 meters and a close-up magnification of 0.34x, with 4.5 stops of shake correction, while the RF 1,200mm F8 L IS USM model pushes the minimum focusing distance just slightly further to 4.3 meters with 4.0 stops of shake correction. Both can extend their ranges too with a Canon extender, the former reaching 1,600mm and the latter at a whopping 2,400mm. They’re also relatively light for their performance: the 800mm option weighs just 6.9 pounds, and the 1,200mm option weighs 7.4 pounds. Available this...

Meta Plans to Build a Universal Speech Translator

During Meta‘s latest Inside the Lab virtual event series, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the company is currently working on a “universal speech translation system” allowing people around the world to instantaneously communicate with one other using different languages. “The ability to communicate with anyone in any language, that’s a superpower people have dreamed of forever, and AI is going to deliver that within our lifetimes,” said Zuckerberg. Meta’s plan for the project comes in two parts. The first initiative is dubbed “No Language Left Behind,” which will build AI models that learn to translate languages using fewer inputs and training examples. “We are creating a single model that can translate hundreds of languages with state-of-the-art results and most of the language pairs, every...

Apple Adds Anti-Stalking Feature to Its AirTags via iOS 15.4 Update

Apple has now implemented new anti-stalking measures for its AirTags. According to 9to5Mac, the tech giant has just added a series of alerts via the beta version of iOS 15.4 revolving around its AirTags as well as other Find My accessories to warn users of any possible stalking behavior and the criminal charges related to them. “In an upcoming software update, every user setting up their AirTag for the first time will see a message that clearly states [the device] is meant to track their own belongings, [and] that using [it] to track people without consent is a crime in many regions around the world,” a statement from Apple reads. “AirTag is designed to be detected by victims, and law enforcement can request identifying information about the owner of the [device].” The new addition co...

Lana Rhoades Reportedly Rug Pulls CryptoSis NFT for $1.5 Million USD

Lana Rhoades has just allegedly rug pulled her CryptoSis NFT community. A week after raising $1.5 million USD for her NFT project — her NFT was a cartoon version of herself — it appears she has emptied $1.5 million USD worth of Ethereum from the CryptoSis wallet. Promising her fans that the project would be a safe investment and that value would continue to grow for the community, many fans invested a huge portion of their savings into the NFT project. A friend of Rhoades attempted to shed some light on the situation on Discord — while shilling a very similar project of her own — explaining that she decided to walk away from the project (and with investors’ funds) due to the negative and rude comments she had to read on the CryptoSis Discord and that she didn’t “want to look at comments.” ...
