JSE-listed higher education provider, STADIO, has launched a new digital badging initiative for African students. STADIO Stripes helps students prepare for the world of work by recognising their skills-based achievements in addition to the traditional qualification transcript. Employers are warning that a traditional qualification transcript is becoming insufficient to help graduates navigate the fast-changing world. To be able to survive and thrive in this new world of work, graduates are being asked to showcase additional skills and attributes that go beyond the traditional qualification. Digital badging is a fantastic way of formally acknowledging these non-accredited learning achievements. Aside from the official tertiary transcript, digital badging involves an additional structured pr...
TikTok is starting to offer users a new level of control over their For You page. The company announced today that you’ll be able to specify specific words or hashtags you don’t want to see in your feeds, and the app will automatically filter them out. TikTok’s examples are fairly simple — like when you’ve finished a reno and don’t want to see DIY videos anymore or decide you don’t want to see cooking tutorials using a certain type of food or meat. But these kinds of filters could be used to much more carefully control your feed. The platform is also rolling out two new automated moderation and filtering tools. One, called Content Levels, ranks content based on “thematic maturity” and is designed to keep mature content of all types from being shown to young users. (TikTok compared it to th...
It’s World Emoji Day on Sunday, so that means we’re getting a preview of the emoji that will eventually come to iOS and Android. While designs will vary per platform, Emojipedia has a draft list and sample images for Emoji 15.0. The Unicode Consortium only has 31 draft emoji this year that will likely be rolled out in 2022 and 2023. While the draft emoji can change between now and finalization in September, most (if not all) will make it through. Contenders include a shaking face and much-needed high five and wireless emojis. The shaking face emoji will be primarily used for shock reactions, or it could become the official earthquake emoji thanks to its vibration-like attributes. While people often use the Folded Hands emoji as a high five, this year we’re getting an official one. Rightwar...
Joining the company in 1992, Jony Ive helped shaped the legacy of Apple for over 27 years, serving as the company’s very first Chief Design Officer in 2015. Ive played an integral role in the company’s breakthrough products, from the 1998 iMac G3 to the 1st-generation iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad. He has also contributed to the early development of iOS, Apple’s major architectural projects such as Apple Park, and more. Steve Jobs considered Ive one of his closest friends and once declared that the lead designer and executive “has more operational power than anyone else at Apple except me.” In 2019, Sir Jony Ive left Apple to start his design firm LoveFrom with ex-Apple industrial designer Marc Newsom, remaining involved with the company in a consulting capacity. Fast forward to today, it’...

Details have emerged surrounding Twitter’s lawsuit against Elon Musk for backing out of the acquisition deal. The social media platform is looking to have Musk follow through on the $44 billion USD acquisition, forcing him to pay $54.20 USD per share. Twitter wrote in the lawsuit, “Having mounted a public spectacle to put Twitter in play, and having proposed and then signed a seller-friendly merger agreement, Musk apparently believes that he — unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law — is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away. Musk refuses to honor his obligations to Twitter and its stockholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests.” Twitter points out that Musk’s wealth is...
The best phone prices undeniably come from wireless carriers — but they also come with a lot of strings attached, like lengthy contracts and requirements to stay on expensive unlimited plans. Buying unlocked means that you aren’t tied to a particular carrier or plan, and that’s why we recommend purchasing a phone that way if you can. Unfortunately, it also means missing out on the “free” phone offer. While Amazon isn’t giving out any free phones on Prime Day, you’ll find the next best thing: significant discounts on current models, with no contract or trade-in required. Here you’ll find the very best wireless deals on Prime Day, from accessories to flagships to 4G-only phones, with no strings in sight.
