Nothing, the consumer tech startup led by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, will announce its first smartphone at an event on July 12th, the company has announced. The Nothing Phone 1 will be the company’s second device, following the release of its Ear 1 true wireless earbuds last year. The in-person event will be held in London alongside a simultaneous livestream at 11AM ET. Nothing is branding the launch as Nothing (event): Return to Instinct. The current state of NFT art is best described as “visual dogshit,” the artist and provocateur Brad Troemel argued in a recent Instagram slideshow. To grossly oversimplify it, there are two challenges behind making an under-display camera (UDC): to convincingly hide the camera under the screen, and to produce images that look as good as traditional selfie cameras. With its third-gen UDC on the Axon 40 Ultra, ZTE has nailed the “hide the camera” part of that challenge. As for “take good photos”, ZTE has come a long way on that since its first attempt, but there’s still work to be done. First, some basics: this is a 16-megapixel camera residing under a 6.8-inch 2480 x 1116 OLED panel. A new Google filling with the Federal Communications Commission has suggested that its cheaper Chromecast video streaming dongle could be on the way. As of writing, the FCC filing only shows it being described as a “wireless device” codenamed “Google G454V.” There are no leaked or official images of the upcoming product just yet, however the diagram features an LCD display and a remote controller. This hints at Google’s rumored streaming dongle that was revealed by a protocol earlier this year and will supposedly provide a 1080p resolution. If the reports are accurate, the forthcoming product will serve as the followup to the latest third generation Chromecast. PayPal is extending its features to now allow users to better incorporate cryptocurrency in their everyday lives. Bitcoin and Ethereum can officially be transferred to external wallets. The long-awaited feature creates a seamless integration between crypto and everyday use and continues to perpetuate the popularity of cryptocurrency services. In an official statement by the financial giant, the company said, “Starting today, PayPal supports the native transfer of cryptocurrencies between PayPal and other wallets and exchanges.” The new feature is a continued effort from when PayPal first launched its crypto offering in late 2020.
