Manchester United halt summer transfer plans until season objective is reached

Manchester United halt summer transfer plans until season objective is reached
Manchester United fans are planning a mass walkout in the next home game against Wolves on February 1st, as reported in The Mirror.

According to the MEN, Manchester United have shelved their summer transfer plans until the club’s Champions League fate is clear.

Currently in the third spot, the Red Devils face off against fellow top-four hopefuls Leicester City who are just one point behind them. The Red Devils need to avoid a loss on the final day of the season to ensure a top-four finish.

A return to Europe’s top competition will be a just reward for United’s brilliant form since the start of the year. The club has lost just once in the league since as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went from strength to strength.

It now appears where we end up will dictate the club’s summer activity. According to the report, United have made no more enquiries about their targets since discovering the transfer window was set to open on July 27

Senior United figures held a meeting last week, with negotiator Matt Judge also in attendance. The club is also aware of who they want to bring in. Ensuring Champions League football will hopefully persuade the players to join Solskjaer’s project.

United have two bites of the cherry at a return to Europe’s top competition. The club’s Europa League campaign is set to resume next season. United is one of the best teams in the tournament that they last won in 2017.

It was earlier reported that Jadon Sancho and his representatives see Champions League football as a key requirement in moving to Old Trafford.

The Borussia Dortmund star is one of United’s key transfer targets. It makes sense for the club to ensure the job is done on the pitch before following up off it.

Chief executive Ed Woodward had promised to invest despite financial constraints brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

It remains to be seen what the club does. But before that, all eyes will be on the King Power Stadium this weekend.
