Brendan Rodgers house-hunting in Cheshire ahead of possible Manchester United move

There is a lot of speculation about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.  The Red Devils were expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season after they signed Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer transfer window.  However, they are currently nine points behind the leaders Chelsea in the league table after a series of disappointing performances.  United lost 5-0 against Liverpool at Old Trafford followed by another humiliating 2-0 home defeat against Manchester City last week.  Solskjaer’s position at the club looks precarious now, with reports also suggesting senior players have lost faith in him.  Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be the Red Devils’ number one candidate to replace the Nor...

Manchester United seriously considering sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United are giving serious consideration to sacking current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to a report from Manchester Evening News.  The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.  Mohamed Salah grabbed a brilliant hat-trick while Naby Kieta and Diogo Jota also earned their names on the scoresheet to complete the rout.  The Manchester side are currently winless in their last four Premier League matches and have now been dropped to seventh in the league standings.  Solskjaer led United to a third-place finish in his first full season while the Premier League outfit finished as league runners-up last season under the Norwegian boss.  The 48-year-old was rewarded last season with a new t...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Paul Pogba, Jadon Sancho and Premier League title challenge

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke to the media ahead of the club’s Premier League opener against Leeds United on Saturday. The Red Devils finished an impressive second in the league standings last term, but they ended the season on a low note with a Europa League final defeat. Ahead of the new campaign, United have been fancied to mount a better challenge for the title, and Solskjaer believes his team has the potential to be in the race. He said: “Well, we have gradually closed the gaps. Nothing is beyond these players – I wouldn’t put it past them.” “It will need a very, very good season. You want to come to April and May and be in that.” Meanwhile, Paul Pogba’s future has been a regular talk of speculation. The Frenchman has under 11 months left on his contract and has de...

‘Deal agreed’ – Man Utd edge close to landing 16-goal star after making ‘further progress in negotiations’

Manchester United have made further progress in negotiations to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. According to The Athletic, the deal between the two clubs has not been done, but they are close to an agreement. Sancho, who is part of the England squad at the European Championships, has been a long-term target for United. The 21-year-old scored 16 goals and provided 20 assists in all competitions last season. Dortmund demanded €120 million (£110 million) for the winger last summer, and United were unwilling to pay that amount. This summer, there has been a willingness between both clubs to reach an agreement. The German giants initially demanded a fee close to €100m. Dortmund have now indicated that they would be willing to do a deal at €95m. Yeste...

Manchester United told to pay €90m for attacker with 36 goal contributions last season

Borussia Dortmund have set a non-negotiable asking price for Jadon Sancho amid ongoing negotiations with Manchester United, talkSPORT reports. The Red Devils were heavily linked with the forward’s services last summer, but they were put off by Dortmund’s €120 million valuation. Sancho is likely to be available for a lesser fee this time around with just two years remaining on his contract with the German club. United recently failed with a £67m (€78m) bid for the England international, and they have since made an improved offer of more than £75m (€87m). Dortmund are unsatisfied with the latest proposal from the Red Devils, and they have now set a take-it-or-leave-it asking price of €90m plus add-ons. Sportslens view: United tried to negotiate the transfer fee for Sancho last summ...

Manchester United make £75m bid for attacker with 36 goal achievements last season

Manchester United have made an improved bid to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, Sky Sport reports. The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Englishman last summer, but a deal failed to materialise as they were put off by the £108 million valuation. Sancho could be available for a lesser fee this time around, but United are yet to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga outfit for his services. United recently made an opening offer of £67m plus add-ons which was rejected, and they have now made an improved bid of more than £75m. The offer remains short of Dortmund’s valuation, but there is ‘a willingness from all parties’ to get the deal done with Sancho’s contract expiring in June 2023. Sportslens view: Sancho was in sublime form for Dortmund this past season, registerin...

Marcus Rashford penalty gives England win over Romania in Euro warm-up

Marcus Rashford’s penalty earned England an unconvincing 1-0 win over Romania in their final warm-up friendly ahead of Euro 2020 in Middlesbrough on Sunday. However, victory for Gareth Southgate’s men was again overshadowed by booing from supporters as the players took the knee before kick-off. Southgate’s selection will also be questioned as he named an experimental line-up with five players who are not part of his final squad making an appearance at some point in the game. There is still one place up for grabs in Southgate’s 26-man squad, though, due to an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold. James Ward-Prowse, Ben Godfrey and Ben White were all given the chance to further their case from the start, while Jesse Lingard and Ollie Watkins came off the bench in the second-half. An inexperience...

Euro 2020: Gareth Southgate invites Bukayo Saka, 24 others

Gareth Southgate hit back at the critics after selecting Trent Alexander-Arnold for England’s Euro 2020 squad as the Three Lions boss admitted Harry Maguire is a doubt for the opener against Croatia. Alexander-Arnold had to endure a nervous wait before learning he had made the cut after spending much of the season out of favour with Southgate. The 22-year-old was left out of Southgate’s England squad for their World Cup qualifiers in March. But Alexander-Arnold’s strong end to the season with Liverpool convinced Southgate to restore the right-back to his squad. Alexander-Arnold responded to his selection by tweeting: “Always believe in yourself. Silence the doubters.” Irritated by the inaccurate pre-announcement reports that he would drop Alexander-Arnold, Southgate insisted he never lost ...
