Nick Oliveri has called out former Kyuss bandmates Josh Homme and Scott Reeder for not allowing use of the “Kyuss” band name. During his stint in the band, Oliveri played alongside guitarist Homme (whom he would also play with in Queens of the Stone Age), singer John Garcia, bassist Scott Reeder, and drummer Brant Bjork. This lineup would release the band’s debut, 1991’s Wretch, and the seminal 1992 desert/stoner metal album Blues for a Red Sun before Oliveri left the group in 1992. Bjork stuck around for one more album, 1994’s Welcome to Sky Valley, while the entire band would break up two years later in 1995. Homme has since achieved international fame with Queens of the Stone Age, while Oliveri (who exited QOTSA in 2004) and Bjork recently formed the far more Kyuss-esque group Stöner. P...

“Fuck it,” Hayley Williams told the crowd in Bakersfield, CA, before Paramore launched into their first performance of “Misery Business” in over four years. 2007’s “Misery Business” is often cited as the band’s breakthrough song, though they retired it in 2018 amid discussions about the #MeToo movement and the lyrics, “Once a whore, you’re nothing more/ I’m sorry that’ll never change.” Even before then, Williams had tried to rationalize that line by saying, “Those words were written when I was 17,” and explaining that she could no longer “relate to” the lines. But on October 2nd, at the very first stop on Paramore’s 2022 tour, the fans didn’t have trouble relating, judging by the enormous roar that went up from the Bakersfield crowd. “Four years ago, we said ...

If you’ve ever wanted to smoke weed with Seth Rogen, we now know how to make that dream a reality: Simply shell out 40 grand. At Rogen’s annual Hilarity for Charity event last weekend, two people paid $40,000 each to enjoy a pottery lesson and smoke session from the stoner comedian-vase maker, by far the highest bid at the auction. Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller, started the Alzheimer’s awareness organization Hilarity for Charity after Miller’s mother was diagnosed with the disease. Per Page Six, Saturday night’s event, which marked the 10th anniversary of the nonprofit, featured standup from Nicole Beyer and Ron Funches, tap dancing from Chloe Arnold’s Syncopated Ladies, and a set from magician Justin Willman. Samantha Ronson served as DJ, while Natasha Leggero and Jillian Bell acted a...
HBO’s House of the Dragon might serve up some new context for the Game of Thrones universe, but the spinoff/prequel series is still getting fans riled up over one nagging issue: Terrible lighting. But after House of the Dragon Episode 7 prompted fan complaints over the weekend, HBO Max clarified that the ultra-dimmed lighting is an “intentional creative decision.” “I’m gonna need @hbomax to issue a written apology for literally a whole episode of black screen of #HouseOfTheDragon,” one viewer wrote yesterday (October 2nd). “This is ridiculous.” Many other fans echoed those complaints, saying the episode was “unwatchable” and that they could barely understand what was happening. The HBO Max Help Twitter account offered an explanation: “We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene...
The 10th anniversary of good kid, m.A.A.d city is quickly approaching, and Kendrick Lamar is honoring the occasion with a special reissue of his legendary sophomore LP. For a limited time, good kid, m.A.A.d city will now be available with a special alternate cover, featuring the van from the original deluxe edition’s artwork against a solid black backdrop. As for the wax itself, the double-LP in this issue comes pressed on translucent black vinyl. It’s unclear as of right now whether the 10th anniversary edition of Lamar’s major-label debut features any extra bonus tracks, but we can all pretty much agree that the initial tracklist — which includes highlights like “Money Trees,” “Backseat Freestyle,” and “m.A.A.d city” — is worth owning in a physical format. Unsurprisingly, it’s ...
Fever 333, the trio led by frontman Jason Aalon Butler, are down to just one member (Butler) after guitarist Stephen “Stevis” Harrison and drummer Aric Improta announced their departure from the band on Monday (October 3rd). The surprising news came via Instagram posts from Harrison and Improta. Harrison wrote, “Aric and I have decided to leave Fever 333. I won’t get into the details but things were pretty bad internally. That plus creative differences sort of left me with no choice.” He continued, “That said, I’m so thankful for all the amazing fans, people who helped Fever behind the scenes, and my friends and family who supported me through all of this. Your support means so much! I still plan to make music. Aric and I will probably do something together in the future. Love you guys!! K...
This review is part of our coverage of the 2022 New York Film Festival. The Pitch: Dom LeLillo’s White Noise is one of those “great American novels” long thought to be unfilmable, a scattered, acerbic takedown of late American capitalism and its incessant need to distract from the inevitability of death with movies, culture, conversation, stuff. And honestly, it’s oddly fitting that the filmmaker who’d finally tackle it would be Indie Darling Noah Baumbach himself: Like DeLillo, he too is concerned with the fits and foibles of academia, the crumbling nature of the family unit, the ways we cling to ephemera just to keep ourselves from falling apart. And so it is with this three-part tale of the Gladney clan, a nuclear family about to go metaphorically (and in some ways litera...
