Chris Rock and Kevin Hart began their evening at Madison Square Garden with a rather puzzling bang. In the midst of a slew of controversies, Dave Chappelle was the surprise opener for the co-headlining gig Saturday night (July 23rd). “Had to sneak my way in here,” Chappelle, donning a Nirvana In Utero t-shirt, said after walking onstage to Radiohead’s Karma Police. “Despite what you may have read about in the news, I’m OK and I appreciate the support.” Chappelle’s 22-minute set comes just days after Minneapolis venue First Avenue canceled his show there due to backlash regarding his unyielding habit of transphobic jokes. After being forced to move locations, the comedian evidently took no notes from the criticism: “I can see a transgender hit squad coming from...
Red Hot Chili Peppers are making up for lost time with guitarist John Frusciante. Just months after releasing Unlimited Love, their first record with Frusciante in 16 years, the band has announced its follow-up. Entitled Return of the Dream Canteen and produced by Rick Rubin, it’s due to arrive on October 14th via Warner. In a statement announcing the album, Chili Peppers said: “We went in search of ourselves as the band that we have somehow always been. Just for the fun of it we jammed and learned some old songs. Before long we started the mysterious process of building new songs. A beautiful bit of chemistry meddling that had befriended us hundreds of times along the way. Once we found that slip stream of sound and vision, we just kept mining. With time turned into an elastic waist band ...
Rage Against the Machine narrowly avoided another broken leg after an audience member rushed the stage, knocking over guitarist Tom Morello in the process. The incident occurred during the band’s closing performance of “Killing in the Name” in Toronto on Saturday night. As you can see via the fan-captured footage embedded below, a man ran on from the side of a stage. A security guard sprang into action, but inadvertently tackled Morello. The band briefly stopped to make sure Morello was alright, but the guitarist quickly got back on his feet and proceeded to finish the performance. This fall, AMC will resurrect Anne Rice’s iconic Interview with the Vampire for television, all part of the network’s plan to turn Rice’s works into an expansive new franchise. As seen in the Comic-Con trailer below, the new series is based on the 1976 novel about the life of vampires who exist among unknowing humans, updated for the present day. Not to be mistaken for the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, the series adaptation of Interview With the Vampire features Game of Thrones’ Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid as Lestat de Loincourt. The ebb and flow of their relationship is a key aspect of the show created by Rolin Jones, which was shot in Rice’s hometown of New Orleans. Eric Bogosian, Chris Stack, and Bailey Bass are also featured in the cast. While A...
The Sandman will officially bring us a dream next month, but we’ve got a lot to look forward to now thanks to Netflix’s latest trailer for the Neil Gaiman comic book adaptation. The newest trailer focuses on the conflict between Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) and a rogue nightmare that has escaped to the waking world, the Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook). “My creations do not walk among the living killing mortals for pleasure,” Morpheus says in the new trailer, though his words are undercut by violent spurts of blood. Meanwhile, the Corinthian is having the time of his un-life. “Oh, you don’t think dreams can’t die? Let’s find out,” he smirks. Check out the trailer below. Based on Gaiman’s DC series of the same name, The Sandman premieres on August 5th and co-stars Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer,...
There has been no shortage of Disney+ Marvel content this year, and the expanding Marvel universe continues to explode exponentially. So, with the critically-acclaimed Ms. Marvel having come to a close, it’s time to make way for Marvel’s newest hero — who also happens to be a lawyer. We already got our first look at She-Hulk: Attorney at Law earlier this year, which will introduce Avenger Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)’s cousin, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), who is both a young attorney and also, well, a Hulk. But Saturday, during Marvel’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, we got a full trailer, as well as the tease that Charlie Cox would be appearing in the show once again as lawyer Matt Murdock/blind superhero Daredevil. Plus, Doctor Strange‘s Benedict Wong will return as fan-...
Marvel has officially announced Daredevil: Born Again, an 18-episode Disney+ series based on the classic Frank Miller comic storyline. The unveiling came during Marvel head Kevin Feige’s preview of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Comic-Con. Daredevil: Born Again will arrive in Spring of 2024, and — big news for big Daredevil fans — Charlie Cox will reprise the role of Matt Murdock. Better yet, Vincent D’Onofrio will return as the brutal villain Kingpin. This will hardly be the end of Daredevil’s involvement in the MCU. Cox will be lending his voice to the character in the animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year, and the new trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law confirmed that the hero in red will soon be seeing green. The Guardians may soon be standing down: James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last standalone entry for those characters. The Comic-Con audience was also treated to a preview clip that reportedly features baby Rocket Raccoon, as well as the news that Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova had joined the cast. The final entry with the Guardians in the title is set to arrive May 5th, 2023, though it may not be the end for those characters. They recently appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some of them show up the next time the whole universe is in danger. As Gunn told the audience, “Some stories have an end, doesn’t mean everyone dies.” Gunn took a twisty path to get to his film. He had been fired and then re...
As expected, Marvel rolled out some huge news during its hour at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, with mastermind Kevin Feige essentially rolling out what to expect from Phases 4-6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Key to that announcement was the long-awaited confirmation that a new Fantastic Four was in the works for 2024, and that Phase 6 of the MCU would include two new Avengers films: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Adaptations of Fantastic Four have of course been attempted multiple times in recent years, when the rights to those characters were still owned by an independent Fox. But this would be the Four’s first official entry into the current MCU (beyond John Krasinski’s cameo as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness). Fantastic Four ...
The road to a Black Panther sequel has certainly not been easy, but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally set to arrive on November 11th. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel revealed the first thrilling look at the film. Plot details have been kept under wraps, and fans have wondered where the franchise will go following the death of star Chadwick Boseman in 2020. The new teaser offers few hints except that Angela Bassett’s character Rowanda seems to be taking on some of the responsibilities, announcing, “I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world.” The trailer is soundtracked by a mournful cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ “No Woman No Cry,” that’s remixed with Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.” Lamar executive produced the excellent soundtrack to the o...
A Kid Rock concert in Minot, North Dakota descended into pandemonium after severe weather prevented the Detroit rocker from taking the stage. News of the concert’s cancelation prompted the crowd to go into a full-blown meltdown, with audience members throwing beer cans at the stage. One attendee went as far as to rush the stage; he was promptly tackled by security and escorted from the venue in handcuffs (via TMZ). Kid Rock addressed the cancelation in a post to Twitter. “SO PISSED OFF we could not play for a sold out crowd tonight in Minot, ND (because of high winds) – I know it sucks but none of us can control mother nature,” he wrote. “Please be safe leaving and take care of each other.” Advertisement Related Video The North Dakota State Fair also addressed the show’s cancelation in a s...
