Ex-Megadeth Bassist David Ellefson Launches New Band Dieth, Unveils First Single: Stream
Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has launched a new band called Dieth. The group also shared a performance clip for its lead single “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpents.” Dieth’s lineup is rounded out by Swedish singer-guitarist Guilherme Miranda (ex-Entombed A.D.) and Polish drummer Michał Łysejko (ex-Decapitated). A second guitarist, Michał Grall, is featured in the video, but does not appear to be an official band member. With ex-Entombed A.D. and Decapitated members on board, it’s no surprise that “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpents” is in the technical death metal style, with pummeling blast beats, snarled vocals, and chugging breakdowns. Baltimore trio Pinkshift have at last announced their debut album: Love Me Forever is out on October 21st via Hopeless Records, and to accompany the news, the punk band have shared the single “i’m not crying, you’re crying.” Recorded with punk rock studio vet Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy, The Wonder Years), Love Me Forever is billed as a “no-holds-barred reflection of the state of the world today.” Through fiery riffs, pointed lyrics, and the infectious spunk of lead singer Ashrita Kumar, Pinkshift make music that demands to be heard — but, perhaps most importantly, they’re creating a space where fellow people of color in the scene might be inspired to do the same. Pantera to Reunite for 2023 Tour
The surviving members of Pantera are set to reunite in 2023 for their first tour in over 20 years. Billboard reports that singer Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown have signed a deal with Artist Group International to book their upcoming North American dates. “We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic band and bringing their music back to the fans,” agent Peter Pappalardo said in a statement. It’s unclear who will be joining Anselmo and Brown on the road for the tour. Guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell was murdered during a show in Ohio in 2004, while his brother Vinnie Paul died in 2018 from heart disease. Eddie Munson may have been the breakout character of Stranger Things Season 4, a point proven by Netflix’s latest piece of marketing, a huge crop art installation the streaming service commissioned in his image. A new video, shot in a field “somewhere in Indiana,” shows a huge piece of crop art by artist Stan Herd depicting the beloved metalhead in all his glory. The aerial shots of the artwork are soundtracked, of course, by Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” a fitting tribute for the character. “Eddie Munson 4 Ever,” the design reads. First Kate Bush, now Metallica: Thanks to a high-profile feature on Season 4 of Stranger Things, the metal legends have enjoyed a nice little bump on the Billboard charts, with the 1986 song “Master of Puppets” entering the Hot 100 for the first time ever. After Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) shredded the song from the Upside Down (with an assist from Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo’s son Tye, who recorded additional guitar parts for the scene), “Master of Puppets” entered at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of July 16th. If you’re extremely online, you may have recently seen photos circulating on Twitter of Armie Hammer appearing to work at a hotel resort in the Cayman Islands. Now, Variety has confirmed that the photos are real, and that the disgraced actor is, in fact, selling timeshares in the Caribbean. Rumors of Hammer’s hotel employment began last week, when a flyer advertising his services as a “personal concierge” began circulating on social media. Photos of the actor in uniform followed. Panda Bear, founding member of Animal Collective, and Sonic Boom, founding member of Spaceman 3, have announced the new collaborative album, Reset. It’s out August 12th, and as a preview, the experimental pop auteurs have shared lead single “Go On.” According to a statement, Bear and Boom (real names Noah Lennox and Peter Kember) met over MySpace in the mid-aughts, after the former thanked Spaceman 3 in the liner notes of his solo album, Person Pitch. They’ve been collaborating since Panda Bear’s 2011 album Tomboy, and six years ago Kember moved to Portugal, in part to be closer to Lennox.
